Entry-Level Microbiology Lab Technician

We are seeking an entry-level lab technician to join our fast-paced, high-volume quality lab, specializing in testing food, beverages, and consumables. This role involves performing and documenting routine tasks related to sample processing and assays using written operating procedures and standard laboratory methods. You will support the laboratory department by coordinating various laboratory processes.
Responsibilities
- Receive, register, and prepare samples for general analytical testing through data entry, weighing, and physical homogenization.
- Prepare and perform routine to more complex analyses per company methods.
- Read and record results of analyses, ensuring identification numbers match with the correct samples.
- Operate basic laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, colorimeters, spectrophotometers, autoclaves, and evaporators.
- Prepare and assure the accuracy of standards, reagents, and other materials needed for analyses.
- Acid wash glassware and clean other equipment and areas as required.
- Function as the primary data generator, record and calculate data, and sign assay sheets.
- Perform routine lab and department maintenance to keep the area clean and orderly.
- Interpret customer requests and perform receiving and log-in functions.
- Conduct preliminary interpretations of data or observations, and draft short reports to supervisors.
- Carry out assignments in a timely, diligent, and safe manner, adhering to company SOPs.
- Assure adherence to safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Ability or experience in quickly picking up verbal and written instructions/feedback on basic laboratory weighing and safe-handling procedures (aseptic techniques, SOPs, DOPs, GOPs…)
- Understanding of laboratory safety and general work-safety concepts.
- High attention to quantitative detail and ability to prioritize quality and accuracy while maintaining processing speed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry or a related field (Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, etc.) or a high school diploma with good tenure in a fast-paced position.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Experience or familiarity with laboratory, plating, GLP, chemistry, microbiology, biology, and data entry.
Work Environment
Work in a big team lab environment that is fun, team-oriented, and feedback-rich. Enjoy a very nice facility with multiple microbiology and chemistry labs. Be prepared for overtime, with candidates expected to be open to 5-10 hours a week, which is not typically planned in advance.
There are two schedule options available, which will be determined upon an offer or after starting, depending on preference and team fit: Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM OR Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, both with the possibility of mandatory overtime of 1-2 hours each day. Some schedules may be 7:00am - 3:30pm.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dublin, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.80 - $23.80/hr.
