This role focuses on delivering early planning and engineering solutions across product, process, and tooling to improve manufacturing characteristics, while providing technical guidance to downstream teams throughout the new model development cycle.
Responsibilities
- Support advanced body frame stamping product feasibility from initial styling sketches through first drawing issue for new model body-in-white construction.
- Create part data proposals, tool process plan specifications, and rough layouts to support early-stage product and tooling decisions.
- Report technical criteria, risks, and recommendations to category technical experts and new model project leadership in a clear and timely manner.
- Lead manufacturing stamping new model equipment verification checklist requirements across relevant engineering and quality functions.
- Drive drawing maturation activities for stamping equipment and tooling, ensuring alignment with North American development and quality processes.
- Conceive and lead the development of new model stamping tooling specifications and process plans from first drawing release to die go.
- Provide direct technical guidance and oversight to downstream customers, including design, manufacturing, and production teams, to ensure successful design and production deliverables.
- Monitor design changes during drawing maturation and ensure that tooling and process plans remain accurate and up to date.
- Support complex manufacturing problem analysis for stamping and sheet metal forming categories, determining root causes and recommending effective corrective actions.
- Develop and set specific action plans (SAP) during new model development to resolve issues and improve manufacturability.
- Apply expert knowledge of automotive sheet metal forming to optimize part design, tooling concepts, and manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an R&D environment to improve manufacturing characteristics, cost competitiveness, and delivery timing for new models.
- 3+ years of automotive part simulation experience using AutoForm.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (such as Mechanical or Industrial) or equivalent related experience.
