Job Description
This role focuses on building, assembling, and installing grain handling equipment for farms in and around the Napoleon, Ohio area, including Waterville and Whitehouse. You will assemble and repair grain elevators, conveying systems, and steel farming equipment, working primarily on construction sites and farm locations. The position combines mechanical assembly, welding, and precision alignment work, with a strong emphasis on outdoor field work during the busy season and shop-based maintenance during slower periods.
Responsibilities
- Build and assemble grain equipment for farms in the Napoleon, Ohio region, including grain elevators, conveying systems, and steel farming structures.
- Install grain elevators, conveying systems, and related steel farming equipment at customer sites, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
- Repair broken or defective machine parts using welding and brazing tools, with a focus on stick welding techniques.
- Perform fabrication tasks as needed to modify or create components for grain handling and farming equipment.
- Align equipment using specialized tools such as micrometers and plumb bobs to ensure accurate installation and optimal performance.
- Work at heights on farm and steel grain equipment, following safe work practices and using appropriate fall protection.
- Visit construction and farm sites to assess potential issues, installation needs, and equipment requirements before and during projects.
- Use blueprints and technical drawings to guide assembly, installation, and repair work.
- Operate and properly use basic hand tools and power tools required for assembly, installation, and maintenance tasks.
- Perform outdoor work assembling and installing grain elevators, conveying systems, and steel farming equipment, especially during peak season.
- During slower seasons, complete basic maintenance and repair tasks around the shop to support ongoing operations.
- Travel daily from the shop to various construction and farm sites, typically within about one hour of Napoleon, Ohio, as part of a crew.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area both on job sites and in the shop.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines related to construction sites, welding, working at heights, and equipment operation.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work, resolve issues, and complete projects on schedule.
Essential Skills
- Millwright experience with mechanical assembly and installation of equipment.
- At least 2 years of experience in stick welding, including repair and fabrication work.
- Proficiency in welding techniques, including stick welding, with the ability to produce strong and reliable welds.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to guide assembly and installation.
- Experience using basic hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a construction or industrial environment.
- Experience with assembly and installation of grain elevators or similar conveying systems.
- Comfort working at heights on steel grain equipment and farm structures.
- Ability to align equipment using specialized tools such as micrometers and plumb bobs.
- Capability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Reliable attendance and willingness to work extended hours and Saturdays during peak season.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in welding processes such as MIG or TIG in addition to stick welding.
- Experience in metal fabrication for custom components or structural modifications.
- Previous experience in agricultural, construction, or industrial environments.
- Familiarity with grain handling systems and farm equipment.

Work Environment
This is a first-shift role based out of a shop near Napoleon, Ohio, with daily travel to construction and farm sites typically within about an hour of the shop. Start times generally range around 7:00 a.m., with the workday ending between approximately 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., depending on weather conditions and project schedules. During peak season from May to October, you will spend about 99% of your time working outdoors, assembling and installing grain elevators, conveying systems, and steel farming equipment, often at heights. Saturdays are a regular part of the schedule in this busy period, and overtime is common. During the slower season, about 99% of the work takes place indoors at the shop, where you will perform basic maintenance and support tasks while maintaining a 40-hour workweek. You will travel to job sites in a company truck as part of a crew rather than driving yourself. The environment is hands-on and physically active, with regular use of welding equipment, fabrication tools, basic hand tools, and alignment instruments such as micrometers and plumb bobs, and requires adherence to appropriate safety gear and work attire suitable for construction and shop settings.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
