Job Title: Phlebotomist III


Job Description

The Phlebotomist III is responsible for assisting with various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The role involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, decontaminating, and updating patient information.


Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and label specimens according to established procedures.
  • Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
  • Decontaminate and update patient information.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Understand all physician orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5-7 years of experience in phlebotomy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience should be in a clinic or hospital setting, not in a donor setting.

Work Environment

This role requires working 4 night shifts, 5x8s, with rotating weekends from 12 AM to 8 AM. The work environment requires wearing any solid color scrubs.
