The Distribution Engineer develops detailed work packages for new customer construction projects and asset replacement programs, ensuring all designs meet rigorous quality, safety, and consistency standards. The position requires a licensed Professional Engineer with deep experience in utility distribution design who can lead complex projects, support construction activities, and provide technical guidance to other team members in a largely remote work environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and review overhead and underground electric distribution lines from 4 kV to 69 kV, including projects from 12.5 kV to 34.5 kV.
- Develop detailed work packages for overhead distribution, underground residential distribution (URD), reconductoring, asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit systems.
- Design complex overhead and underground distribution projects in both urban and rural environments in full compliance with engineering and construction specifications.
- Perform field engineering of project requirements, including identification of conflicting utilities, engineering and design calculations, and development of required work permits.
- Develop Point to Point (PtP) testing plans and lead both field and office personnel in executing field testing activities.
- Coordinate small design teams to develop budgets, prepare scoping documents, establish design criteria, and produce project deliverables.
- Provide engineering support to clients during construction, including participation in construction meetings, coordination efforts, and community outreach as needed.
- Review completed designs and design products to ensure compliance with established quality and consistency standards.
- Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, and external stakeholders to successfully complete substation-related projects.
