Job Description

Actalent is seeking a skilled Drafter proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA to create detailed 2D and 3D models and drawings for prototype components and assemblies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of tolerance stack ups, manufacturing processes, and the ability to prototype and refine designs effectively. This role involves performing tolerance analysis and ensuring all drawings include accurate dimensions, materials, and finishes. The Drafter will translate complex technical concepts and procedures into understandable instructions using drawings, images, and text, essential for writing clear, concise, and visually supported instructions for airplane assembly.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 2D and 3D models and drawings for prototype components and assemblies using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA.
• Perform tolerance analysis and ensure all drawings include accurate dimensions, materials, and finishes.
• Translate complex technical concepts and procedures into understandable instructions using drawings, images, and text.
• Collaborate with designers and engineers to clean up designs, red lines, and new prototypes.
• Write various pieces of documentation, including work instructions, manuals, and assembly notes.
• Utilize MS Word and ERP systems/Excel for pulling BOMs and assembly instructions.
• Break down technical concepts into instructions using text and images, particularly for aircraft manufacturing.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in SolidWorks
• Experience with sheet metal design
• Experience in drafting (GD&T and redlining)
• Manufacturing documentation experience (writing and reviewing)
• Technical writing experience (work instructions, manuals, assembly/builder notes)
• Aviation or aircraft manufacturing experience
• Solid modeling skills in SolidWorks and AutoCAD

Ideal Skills & Qualifications

• Industry experience in aerospace or aviation
• Kit building experience (ideal but not needed)
• Passion for aviation, pilot license, or desire to obtain one
