The Utility Worker prepares materials for production, supports grinding and furnace operations, and ensures clean, safe, and efficient plant conditions. This role focuses on handling raw materials, monitoring storage and processing equipment, and performing routine housekeeping and minor maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Prepare product and materials for day shift use, ensuring correct quantities and timely availability.
- Monitor the sifting and filling of Bagging Department storage tanks to maintain steady and accurate material flow.
- Assist the Furnace Operator with Grinding Department tasks, including material handling and process support.
- Perform daily plant housekeeping, including dust control and general cleanup to maintain a safe and orderly work area.
- Conduct air wand blowdown of the plant site while using appropriate dust particulate respirator equipment.
- Dress glass piles and load cullet into the plant shredder system according to operational procedures.
- Remove contamination from glass piles to prevent equipment plug-ups and quality issues, and report significant concerns to leadership.
- Operate plant equipment safely and efficiently, following all operating procedures and safety guidelines.
- Apply knowledge of raw material processing flow to identify and troubleshoot problems as they occur.
- Operate a forklift safely to move materials and products within the facility.
- Monitor and coordinate bulk dust operations to ensure proper handling and storage.
- Perform minor maintenance and greasing operations on plant equipment as directed.
- Monitor dryer operations and gas rates to ensure the process runs efficiently and within required parameters.
- Follow all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and dress code guidelines, including safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hardhat, hearing protection, gloves, and high-visibility clothing.
- Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds as part of routine job duties.
- Ability to operate a forklift safely in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with general labor tasks such as bagging, material handling, and housekeeping.
- Ability to operate plant equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with established procedures.
- Understanding of raw material processing flow and the ability to troubleshoot process issues as they occur.
- Capability to perform minor maintenance and greasing operations on plant equipment.
- Ability to monitor dryer operations and gas rates to support efficient processing.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to be medically certifiable to wear a respirator for job-related tasks.
- Commitment to following safety protocols and using required PPE at all times.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Comfort performing repetitive physical tasks and working around heavy equipment.
- Attention to detail when identifying and removing contamination from glass piles.
- Strong awareness of safety practices related to bulk dust operations and material handling.
- Ability to communicate issues and equipment concerns promptly to supervisors or lead operators.
- Willingness to wear prescription safety glasses or protective glasses over regular glasses, as contact lenses are not permitted.
- Reliability in adhering to plant dress code requirements, including steel-toe shoes, hardhat, hearing protection, gloves, long pants, and high-visibility long-sleeve shirts or jacket year-round.
