The production laborer operates molds, presses, and calendering equipment to manufacture first-run and regular production parts in a timely and accurate manner with minimal supervision. This role follows written manufacturing procedures, recognizes deviations from accepted practices, and contributes positively within a team environment. The position is responsible for producing sheet, roll, or layered materials to exact specifications while maintaining material quality, consistency, safety, and proper documentation.
Responsibilities- Set up, operate, and monitor calendering equipment to produce sheet, roll, or layered materials according to exact specifications.
- Routinely use molds and presses in the production process to produce first parts and regular production parts with minimal supervision.
- Operate press machines to create parts using molds and other production fixtures.
- Place a variety of materials by hand into molds, on mandrels, or in build fixtures as required by production orders.
- Monitor material flow to ensure uniformity, smoothness, and absence of defects throughout the production run.
- Measure stock to confirm correct thickness and length using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other precision instruments.
- Inspect materials and finished parts with calipers, depth gauges, micrometers, scales, and other measuring equipment to verify quality.
- Weigh stock and scrap to be salvaged and record relevant data as required.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and roll changes to keep equipment in safe and efficient working condition.
- Read and interpret production orders, blueprints, and material specifications to ensure proper setup and output.
- Document production data, including thickness readings, lot numbers, and quality checks, in accordance with company and ISO standards.
- Use hand tools and production equipment safely and effectively to fabricate parts and complete manufacturing tasks.
- Collaborate with quality inspectors and production supervisors to identify and resolve material or process issues.
- Monitor individual production for bad parts and perform early defect detection to prevent quality problems.
- Ensure materials handling recordkeeping is completed accurately and on time.
- Follow all internal safety policies and procedures at all times, including lockout/tagout practices and proper use of PPE.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area, including setup at the start of the shift and cleanup at the end of the shift.
- Work effectively within a team environment and communicate clearly with co-workers and production leads.
- Perform other duties as assigned by production leadership, including working or production leads, planners, supervisors, and module leaders.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds safely and repeatedly in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure for measuring stock and materials.
- Proficiency in using hand tools to fabricate parts and perform production tasks.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and operate manufacturing machinery and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail when monitoring material flow, inspecting parts, and documenting production data.
- Hand dexterity for precise placement of materials into molds, on mandrels, and in build fixtures.
- Skilled in the use of calipers, depth gauges, micrometers, scales, and other measuring equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret production orders, blueprints, and material specifications.
- Capability to work with minimal supervision while following written procedures and recognizing deviations from accepted practices.
- Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment and get along well with co-workers.
- Comfort working under variable plant conditions, including exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, vapors, and industrial chemicals.
- Experience with weekend press molding or similar production press operations is beneficial.
- Prior experience in a production line or manufacturing environment is an advantage.
- Combination of relevant education and hands-on experience may be considered in lieu of specific formal education.
- Familiarity with ISO standards and materials handling recordkeeping is a plus.
- Experience performing routine machine maintenance and roll changes on production equipment.
- Ability to follow lockout/tagout procedures and other safety protocols.
- Comfort using a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment in a manufacturing setting.

Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a manufacturing plant environment that involves working around production machinery, molds, presses, and calendering equipment. The position requires standing, moving materials, and performing repetitive tasks throughout the shift, including lifting up to 30 pounds. You will work under variable environmental conditions such as temperature changes and atmospheric factors including fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, vapors, and exposure to solvents and other industrial chemicals. A clean and organized work area is expected, and proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to all safety procedures are required at all times.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mcminnville, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.30 - $22.00/hr.
