Job Title: General Production Worker
Job Description
The General Production Worker supports daily operations in a heavy industrial scrap metal yard by sorting and organizing metals for processing and recycling. This role involves material handling, loading and unloading trucks, and moving metal parts throughout the facility. The position is highly physical, requiring regular lifting of up to 50 pounds and working both inside the warehouse and outside in the yard in all weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Sort and organize various types of metals for processing and recycling according to established procedures.
- Handle materials safely and efficiently, including moving, stacking, and staging metal parts and products.
- Load and unload trucks using appropriate material handling methods and equipment as directed.
- Move metal parts from one area of the facility to another, often through repetitive and physical tasks.
- Work approximately 50% of the time inside the warehouse and 50% of the time outside in the yard.
- Wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, steel-toe boots, and ear plugs.
- Follow safety guidelines and procedures while working around heavy equipment, machinery, and moving vehicles.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in both the warehouse and yard environments.
- Adapt to working in varying weather conditions, using provided rain gear when necessary.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production, quality, and safety expectations.
Essential Skills
- Experience working in manufacturing, warehousing, or industrial environments.
- Comfort working in a heavy industrial setting with exposure to dirt, noise, and machinery.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors approximately 50% of the time in each environment.
- Willingness and ability to wear all required PPE at all times, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, steel-toe boots, and ear plugs.
- Reliability and consistency in attending a first-shift schedule from Monday to Friday.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work effectively around heavy equipment and machinery.
- Comfort performing physically demanding, repetitive tasks for the duration of the shift.

Work Environment
This role is based in a heavy industrial scrap metal yard that operates on a first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The environment is on the dirtier side, with exposure to dust, debris, and outdoor conditions, and can be loud in many areas due to heavy equipment and machinery running. Work is split between indoor warehouse operations and outdoor yard tasks, with roughly half of the day spent in each setting. Employees wear full personal protective equipment, including hard hat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, and ear plugs; rain gear is provided for inclement weather. The facility combines an industrial setting with a strong emphasis on safety and employee well-being, reflecting the values of a long-established, family-owned operation.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.50 - $23.50/hr.
