Job Title: Assembly Mechanic
Job Description
The Assembly Mechanic assembles industrial shredders and their sub-assemblies by following detailed drawings, written procedures, manufacturers’ recommendations, and verbal specifications. This role works extensively with hydraulic and electric-powered systems, performs inspections on parts to determine condition, sets up systems for testing, and prepares equipment for paint and shipment. The Assembly Mechanic also tears down, inspects, and rebuilds systems to ensure reliable and safe operation.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and disassemble industrial shredders and their sub-components in accordance with drawings, schematics, and written procedures.
- Work with hydraulic and electric-powered systems, ensuring proper assembly, routing, and connection of components.
- Interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics and blueprints to guide accurate assembly and troubleshooting.
- Perform detailed inspections on parts and assemblies to determine condition, identify defects, and verify adherence to specifications.
- Set up systems for functional testing, operate equipment during test procedures, and make adjustments as needed.
- Break down completed systems and prepare them for paint, finishing, and shipment, ensuring all components are properly protected and secured.
- Tear down, inspect, and rebuild systems, replacing or repairing parts as required to restore equipment to optimal condition.
- Operate common assembly equipment such as torches, pneumatic tools, hydraulic jacks, grinders, and pipe fitting/cutting equipment.
- Use hand tools and power tools, including wrenches and other mechanical tools, to assemble and secure components.
- Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, manlifts, and scissorlifts to safely move and position large components and assemblies.
- Read and interpret manufacturing drawings to identify specifications, dimensions, and measurements for parts and assemblies.
- Anticipate and help plan for materials, tools, and resources needed for current and upcoming jobs when applicable.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, meeting high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness.
- Work safely at all times by following established safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Apply mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex mechanical systems and resolve assembly issues.
- Handle industrial-sized equipment and heavy components safely, including lifting and positioning parts up to specified weight limits.
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to assemble and disassemble mechanical sub-components and large industrial equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and advanced understanding of mechanical systems and assemblies.
- Ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics and blueprints accurately.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting complex mechanical systems and resolving assembly issues.
- Solid understanding of bearings, seals, shafts, and other shredder components.
- Ability to read manufacturing drawings and identify specifications and measurements for parts.
- Proficiency with common assembly equipment, including torches, pneumatic tools, hydraulic jacks, grinders, and pipe fitting/cutting equipment.
- Experience using hand tools and power tools for mechanical assembly and wrenching together mechanical components.
- Experience working with industrial-sized equipment, including heavy machinery and large assemblies.
- Capability to operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, manlifts, and scissorlifts safely.
- Strong organizational skills and an acute attention to detail in all aspects of work.
- Mechanical aptitude, including experience in mechanical assembly, automotive, or heavy equipment environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and up to 15 pounds above shoulder height.
- Commitment to working safely at all times and maintaining a clean, orderly work area.
- Comfort reading and working from blueprints, schematics, and detailed technical documentation.

- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in mechanical assembly, automotive, heavy equipment, or related mechanical trades.
- Experience working with motors, power transmission components, and industrial drive systems.
- Familiarity with cranes and other material handling equipment in a production or assembly setting.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and anticipate material and resource needs.
- Strong communication skills to understand verbal specifications and collaborate with team members.
- Comfort working with large, complex assemblies and industrial-scale machinery.

Work Environment
This role is based in an industrial manufacturing environment focused on the assembly of large industrial shredders and related equipment. The position involves hands-on work with hydraulic and electric-powered systems, industrial motors, bearings, seals, shafts, and other heavy mechanical components. Team members regularly use hand tools, power tools, torches, pneumatic tools, hydraulic jacks, grinders, and pipe fitting/cutting equipment. Material handling equipment such as overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, manlifts, and scissorlifts is used frequently to move and position large assemblies. The day shift schedule runs from 5:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. The swing shift runs from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, and includes a shift differential. The environment requires consistent adherence to safety procedures, careful handling of heavy components, and maintenance of high housekeeping and cleanliness standards. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are expected to support safe, hands-on mechanical and industrial work.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
