Job Description
This role operates heavy construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, and front-end loaders to support commercial site work projects. You safely load and unload trucks, haul and hoist materials, and assist with the installation of sewer, water, storm piping, and electrical conduit while following all safety and incident reporting procedures. You also read and interpret blueprints and designs and perform general labor tasks as needed to keep projects on schedule.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, backhoes, and front-end loaders on commercial construction sites.
- Perform site work for commercial projects, including excavation, grading, and material handling.
- Load and unload trucks and safely haul and hoist heavy materials around the job site.
- Install sewer, water, and storm pipe systems in accordance with project plans and specifications.
- Install conduit for electrical components as part of site utility work.
- Read and interpret blueprints and designs to complete work accurately and efficiently.
- Follow all workplace safety policies, procedures, and incident reporting requirements at all times.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to support equipment operation and general construction tasks.
- Perform general labor tasks such as shoveling, site cleanup, and other duties as assigned.
- Inspect equipment before use and report any issues or hazards to maintain safe operating conditions.
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators and dozers on construction sites.
- Hands-on experience with backhoes, front-end loaders, and other heavy construction equipment.
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used on construction job sites.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow blueprints, designs, and workplace safety policies.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong awareness of safety procedures and incident reporting requirements.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and performing strenuous work for extended periods.
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Class A CDL license preferred but not required.
- Experience working with Caterpillar or similar heavy equipment brands.
- Background in commercial construction site work and excavation.
- Comfort working with power tools and performing tasks such as shoveling and general site labor.
- Reliable transportation to job sites in the broader regional area.
- Flexibility to perform both equipment operation and labor tasks as needed.

Work Environment
This role is primarily outdoors and requires working in all types of weather, including extreme heat and cold, for extended periods. The work involves regular physical activity and strenuous tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and performing manual labor alongside equipment operation. You will typically work on commercial construction job sites in the Shippensburg, Chambersburg, Greencastle, Waynesboro, and Hagerstown areas. CDL drivers generally take a truck and machine from the shop to the job site, while non-CDL drivers usually report directly to the site or may use a company vehicle from the shop when needed. You work with heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, front-end loaders, and Caterpillar machinery, as well as standard hand and power tools, in an active construction environment that emphasizes safety and teamwork.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chambersburg, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
