🔧 Job Overview
As a Shapes Operator, you will set up, load, and operate extrusion and related production equipment on the night shift to produce high-quality plastic products.
This role supports process control, quality assurance, and material handling, while also assisting with troubleshooting and working closely with senior technicians to maintain safe, efficient, and accurate production.
📦 Key Responsibilities
- Load extrusion and related machines using FIFO (first-in, first-out) material practices
- Ensure materials are used correctly according to lot numbers and purchase orders
- Create and update coil tags for regrinds and maintain accurate material identification
- Assist with statistical quality control (SQC) charting and record required production data
- Support process control by recording parameters and ensuring tolerances are met
- Monitor and help control extruder heat variables for stable processing
- Assist senior technicians with troubleshooting, setups, and screen changes
- Maintain accurate tracking of materials used and inventory on hand
- Help train Utility team members on procedures and safety standards
- Process and grind scrap while working to reduce waste levels
- Fill in for senior technicians during breaks to maintain production continuity
- Assist with loading mesh, labeling, and preventative maintenance tasks
- Follow 5S practices to keep work areas clean, organized, and efficient
- Pack finished goods per specifications and record production data accurately
- Perform general machine operation and production duties as needed
- Complete additional tasks as assigned to support safe and efficient operations
🧠 Required Skills
- Proven experience as a machine operator in a production/manufacturing setting
- Hands-on experience with extrusion machines or continuous production equipment
- Background in plastics or related manufacturing environments preferred
- Material handling experience, including loading/unloading machines
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine functions
- Ability to lift 50–70 lbs regularly
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions and quality procedures
- Basic troubleshooting skills for machines and production lines
- Willingness to work night shifts, including weekdays and scheduled weekends
➕ Additional Skills (Preferred)
- Forklift operating experience
- Plastic processing or manufacturing experience
- Familiarity with SQC charting and production data tracking
- Experience in a metal shop or industrial environment
- Ability to help train team members and collaborate effectively
- Commitment to 5S and preventative maintenance practices

🏭 Work Environment
- Metal shop and plastic extrusion production facility
- Generally clean but can become dirty due to production and scrap processes
- Not climate controlled – warmer in summer, cooler in winter
- Schedule:
- Typically Sunday–Thursday: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Some schedules: 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Occasional Friday night shifts: 9:00 PM – 5:00 AM
- Work includes:
- Standing for long periods
- Lifting 50–70 lbs regularly
- Operating machinery and handling materials
- Working around industrial equipment and scrap grinding operations
- Follow 5S standards for organization and safety
- May operate forklifts and other material handling equipment
- Industrial dress code with appropriate protective gear required
