Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator (Entry-Level and Experienced)
Pay 20-35/hr
Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of commercial new construction projects, including land clearing, foundation excavation, utility trenching, finish grading, and backfilling. You will operate a wide range of heavy equipment and also perform general construction tasks outside of the equipment as needed. Both entry-level and experienced operators receive training to become proficient on multiple types of machinery.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment on commercial new construction sites, including land clearing, foundation excavation, utility digging, finish grading, and backfilling.
- Safely and efficiently use machinery such as skid loaders, front end loaders, haul/rock trucks, backhoes, excavators, and dozers, with a focus on CAT equipment.
- Assist with site preparation and general labor tasks outside of the equipment, such as material handling, site cleanup, and support for other crew members.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
- Conduct basic daily inspections of equipment and report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs.
- Work collaboratively with the site crew to complete projects on schedule and to quality standards.
- Adapt to changing site conditions and tasks as required by the project scope.
- Maintain professional conduct on job sites and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
Essential Skills
- Ability to operate or learn to operate heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, skid steers, front end loaders, and haul/rock trucks.
- Willingness to perform construction and labor tasks outside of operating equipment.
- Understanding of basic construction site safety practices and willingness to follow safety procedures.
- Ability to work on commercial new construction sites performing tasks such as land clearing, foundation excavation, utility digging, finish grading, and backfilling.
- Capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
- Reliability and punctuality for travel to job sites within the specified radius.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating CAT heavy equipment is a plus.
- Prior experience on commercial construction or site work projects is beneficial but not required for entry-level candidates.
- Comfort working on multiple types of equipment and learning new machinery over time.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with other crew members.
- Attention to detail when operating equipment and performing grading or excavation work.

Work Environment
Work takes place on commercial new construction sites located within approximately one hour and thirty minutes of the central area, involving outdoor work in active construction environments. Projects include land clearing, excavation, utility installation, grading, and backfilling, using equipment such as skid loaders, front end loaders, haul/rock trucks, backhoes, excavators, and dozers, primarily CAT machines. Employees wear company-provided shirts as part of the attire and should be prepared for varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and a fast-paced, safety-focused job site.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lititz, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
