Job Description
Join our team as a Hammer Smith Laborer, where you will play a crucial role in assisting our production team in Red Lion, PA. Your main duties will include straightening blades, staying updated with all ongoing projects, and contributing to special projects as needed. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with occasional overtime.
Responsibilities
- Flatten and straighten jobs after heat treatment and grinding using appropriate techniques.
- Inspect flatness through dial and surface table setup, and use feeler gauges and straight edges.
- Select and use appropriate types of hammers for flattening and straightening jobs made from various material grades.
- Identify and correct various types of distortion and curvature in jobs post heat treatment and grinding.
- Handle blades safely due to their sharp edges and high hardness.
- Perform laser etching on blanks, fixtures, etc., as needed.
- Assist with safety projects as directed.
- Ensure compliance with all company Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) policies.
- Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times and maintain current knowledge of company training requirements.
- Make recommendations for enhanced safety measures and equipment to the Safety Committee.
- Minimum of 2 years of smithing experience.
- High school diploma or GED completed or in progress.
- Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions, processes, and procedures.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and speaking fluent English.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work well as a team player and independently with limited supervision.
- Capability to work safely in a manufacturing and production environment.
- Responsible and timely completion of tasks.
- Experience with hand and power tools, tape measure, micrometer, caliper, and gauges.
- Knowledge in fabrication, sheet metal work, and schematics.
- Experience in inventory management, general labor, order picking, and warehouse inventory.
- Familiarity with sit-down forklifts and SAP systems.

Work Environment
The position is primarily indoors in our well-lit manufacturing facility, requiring work around high-speed machinery and equipment. Safety glasses are mandatory, and there is exposure to machine oil, metal filings, and manufacturing odors and noise. The job demands alertness, accuracy, and safety awareness, with company-provided safety training. Physical demands include standing, lifting, walking, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and performing repetitive activities.
