The Survey Crew Chief leads field survey operations for a variety of land development and construction projects, including property and boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, and topographic surveys. This field-based role focuses on residential and commercial construction stakeout across the local area and offers the use of a company truck for travel between project sites.
Responsibilities- Lead and perform land surveying activities for property and boundary surveys in the local region.
- Conduct ALTA and topographic surveys to support engineering, design, and land development projects.
- Perform residential and commercial construction stakeout to ensure accurate placement of structures and site features.
- Utilize surveying instruments, tools, and relevant software to collect, verify, and document field data.
- Apply strong knowledge of survey principles, property boundaries, and topography to produce accurate field measurements.
- Coordinate daily field activities, including planning survey routes and organizing required equipment and resources.
- Travel between project sites within the local area using a company-provided truck.
- Collaborate with office and field team members to communicate survey findings and resolve any discrepancies.
- Ensure that all field work complies with applicable standards, procedures, and project requirements.
- Maintain survey equipment in good working condition and follow safe work practices while on the road and on site.
- 2–5 years of experience in land surveying, with hands-on field experience.
- Strong knowledge of property and boundary surveys.
- Experience performing ALTA surveys.
- Experience conducting topographic surveys.
- Experience with residential construction stakeout.
- Experience with commercial construction stakeout.
- Knowledge of relevant survey modeling tools or platforms (e.g., terrain or corridor modeling).
- Proficiency with land surveying practices and techniques in the field.
- Ability to work independently in a field-based role and manage daily survey tasks.
- Experience with utility surveys and construction-related surveying tasks.
- Familiarity with survey-related software or digital modeling tools for topography and land development.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in field measurements and documentation.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with project teams and reporting survey results.
- Solid organizational skills to manage multiple field assignments within the local area.
This is a field-based, on-the-road position with most work performed at project sites in the local area, including Chester County, Delaware County, and Montgomery County. The role involves daily travel between sites using a company-provided truck. Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather and site conditions, including active residential and commercial construction environments. The position requires comfort with working on uneven terrain, around construction activity, and with standard survey equipment and tools.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Chester, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
