Job Description

We are seeking a Scientist to join the Infectious Disease and Vaccines department at our research site in West Point, PA. To assist our programs at the interface of bacterial infection and immunology, the candidate will have technical experience and understanding of bacteriology, bacterial genetics, and host-pathogen interactions. We value a candidate who can work in both vaccines and antibacterial drug discovery using a skill set focusing on molecular biology and microbiology with an understanding of in vivo infection models. Experimental design, creative-thinking, teamwork, and independent analytical problem solving are essential to the work we do. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

• BS/BA degree in Biology or Biomedical Sciences with a minimum 3 years of experience in industry and/or academia, or an MS degree in Biology or Biomedical Sciences with a minimum of 1 year in industry and/or academia.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Proficient in cloning, sequence analysis, PCR and/or RTqPCR
• Experience with ELISAs, protein and DNA gel electrophoresis, and western blotting
• Strong skills in bacteriology, bacterial genetics, and molecular biology including microbiology-based assays (such as minimum inhibitory concentration, frequency of resistance, and bacterial kill curve assays), and handling and propagating various bacterial organisms such as E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and A. baumannii
• Solid computer skills, capable of independent experimental design and execution, analytical problem-solving capabilities, and ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Some knowledge in drug and/or vaccine discovery

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• Proficiency in flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy.
• Mammalian tissue culture experience
• Keen awareness and interest in emerging biology and new technologies.
• Experience with vaccine antigen discovery and delivery platforms.
