Job Description
This role focuses on joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable materials using appropriate welding techniques. You will work with large structural steel components for NAVSEA-related equipment, interpreting technical documentation and ensuring all welds meet strict structural and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials using flux core and pulse welding techniques.
- Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and welding symbols to determine the correct welding process and sequence of operations.
- Weld and fit various large structural steel components for NAVSEA-related equipment, ensuring accuracy and structural integrity.
- Inspect completed welds to verify structural soundness and adherence to quality and safety requirements.
- Perform structural fitting, including tack welding and positioning of carbon steel components according to design specifications.
- Read and interpret structural blueprints to lay out, fit, and assemble steel components in the correct configuration.
- Convert fractions to decimals to 1/16th and/or 1/32nd from tape measures to ensure precise measurements and fits.
- Work collaboratively with other welders and fitters to complete projects efficiently and meet production timelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures and guidelines in the shop environment.
Essential Skills
- 3–5+ years of experience in structural fitting and welding.
- 3–5+ years of experience with flux core welding.
- 3–5+ years of experience with pulse welding, including MIG pulse processes.
- 3–5+ years of experience reading and interpreting structural blueprints and welding symbols.
- 3–5+ years of experience converting fractions to decimals to 1/16th and/or 1/32nd using tape measures.
- 3+ years of experience in shipyards or related fields fabricating and welding large steel components for NAVSEA-related equipment.
- Proficiency working with structural steel and carbon steel materials.
- Strong fabrication skills, including fitting, tacking, and assembly of large steel structures.
- Ability to accurately interpret technical specifications, diagrams, and schematics.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing structurally sound, high-quality welds.

Work Environment
Work takes place in a non-climate-controlled shop with open-air buildings that include both older and brand-new structures. You will work around large structural steel and carbon steel components in an industrial setting focused on NAVSEA-related equipment. The environment supports a sizable team of welders and fitters and offers opportunities for additional hours through sign-up sheets for Friday and Saturday 8-hour shifts. The company is actively enhancing facilities with new amenities such as a cafeteria and regularly provides on-site food trucks and other perks for employees.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hollywood, SC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $31.00/hr.
