Job Title: Sr. Mechatronics & Robotics Technician
Job Description
The Sr. Mechatronics & Robotics Technician will lead service technicians in the installation, repair, and optimization of automated packaging and distribution equipment. This role supports the Operations Maintenance team by diagnosing complex issues, designing solutions for challenging problems, and managing maintenance projects across a large, highly automated distribution facility. The technician will focus on maintaining material handling equipment, robotic and conveyor systems, and associated electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic components while ensuring safety, reliability, and uptime.
Responsibilities
- Lead service technicians in the installation, repair, and maintenance of automated packaging and distribution equipment.
- Support the Operations Maintenance team in repairing and maintaining material handling equipment such as conveyors and pneumatic systems throughout the facility.
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair industrial components including photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachometers, and encoders.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation.
- Perform quality predictive and preventative maintenance procedures on material handling equipment and automated conveyor systems.
- Complete assigned preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and provide detailed feedback on potential improvements to the preventive maintenance program.
- Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to diagnose issues and implement repairs or modifications.
- Apply electrical and electronic principles to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create, update, and close work orders and accurately document maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders, such as Operations and Safety teams, to coordinate complex maintenance activities with minimal impact on production.
- Provide technical guidance, support, and informal training to less experienced technicians, acting in a lead capacity when required.
- Coordinate and work with external vendors as needed to complete specialized repairs or projects.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, safety, and performance.
- Follow all equipment safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines and internal safety practices.
- Use Microsoft Office applications to prepare reports, track maintenance metrics, and communicate with stakeholders.
- Manage and participate in maintenance projects from planning through execution, ensuring tasks are completed safely, on time, and to specification.
Essential Skills
- 4+ years of experience conducting quality predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.
- 4+ years of experience repairing material handling equipment (MHE) or automated conveyor systems and controls.
- 4+ years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints and electrical schematics.
- 4+ years of knowledge and hands-on experience with electrical and electronic principles.
- 3+ years of experience troubleshooting and diagnosing MHE systems.
- 4+ years of experience working with MHE safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and safety standards.
- 3+ years of experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- At least 1 year of experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Hands-on experience with automated conveyor systems and material handling equipment.
- Ability to install and service industrial components such as photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachometers, and encoders.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or industrial environments performing maintenance on complex systems and industrial equipment, including diagnostics, inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and creating work orders.
- Experience working specifically with conveyor systems.
- Experience working and coordinating with external vendors on maintenance and repair activities.
- Continuous improvement mindset with a desire to learn, grow, and enhance maintenance processes and equipment performance.
- Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders such as Operations and Safety teams to coordinate complex maintenance work.
- Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in Mechanical or Electrical fields.
- Experience acting in a team lead capacity to support, train, and mentor less experienced technicians.
- 2+ years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience in the Mechanical or Electrical field.
- 2+ years of experience working with PLC-based control systems.
- 2+ years of experience with robotic operation and maintenance.
- Project management experience, including planning, organizing, and executing maintenance projects.

Work Environment
This role is based in a large, highly automated distribution facility equipped with high-speed material handling, conveyor, and robotic systems. The environment is fast-paced and data-driven, with performance tracked through metrics to ensure expectations are clear and progress is measurable, without day-to-day micromanagement. Technicians should be comfortable walking significant distances, often around 10,000 steps per day, and moving items weighing up to 49 pounds as part of normal duties. The position requires flexibility to work any 12-hour shift, with opportunities across days, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs. The setting emphasizes safety, adherence to OEM and internal standards, and close collaboration with operations and safety teams in a modern industrial facility.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Summerville, SC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $42.65 - $42.65/hr.
