Refrigeration Mechanic

Job Description
This role focuses on inspecting, maintaining, and repairing industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems in a large plant environment. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and repair ammonia refrigeration equipment, and support the installation and setup of new machinery while following strict safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily inspections and preventive maintenance on refrigeration equipment, including air conditioners, compressors, evaporators, and freon units, to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Diagnose issues and perform repairs and overhauls on ammonia refrigeration systems, including replacing motors, pumps, switches, safety controls, solenoids, and fuses across all plant refrigeration areas.
- Maintain and monitor boilers, evaporators, and condensers to ensure proper water treatment, airflow, and reliable operation of fans and glycol pumps.
- Assist with equipment setup and teardown for plant machinery, including fabrication and installation of new equipment, and support major repairs and construction projects as needed.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 0 to 1 year of related experience, ideally in an ammonia refrigeration environment.
- Knowledge of general refrigeration maintenance, including working with air conditioners, compressors, evaporators, and freon units.
- Basic understanding of ammonia refrigeration systems, including boilers and ammonia compressors.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance and follow structured maintenance procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in an industrial environment.

Work Environment
You will work in a large industrial facility with approximately 400 people in the building across all shifts, creating a dynamic and collaborative environment. The role operates on extended shifts, with day shifts running from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and night shifts from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with a shift differential for night work.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sioux Falls, SD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.25 - $32.25/hr.
