Job Title: Medical Assistant (CCMA)
Job Description
This Medical Assistant position offers the opportunity to provide high-quality clinical and administrative support in a fast-paced outpatient clinic. The role focuses on assisting physicians with direct patient care, coordinating diagnostic services, and managing front and back office tasks. The ideal candidate holds a CCMA credential and has at least one year of medical assisting experience, with a strong commitment to patient-centered service and accurate, timely work.
Responsibilities
- Assist physicians with a wide range of clinical and administrative tasks in a busy outpatient setting.
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate visits to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Obtain prior authorizations and pre-certifications for MRIs, CTs, and other diagnostic tests.
- Communicate test results to patients and providers clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Perform phlebotomy and other clinical procedures as directed by providers.
- Take manual blood pressure and record vital signs accurately in the electronic health record.
- Provide patients with clear instructions regarding tests, procedures, and follow-up care.
- Write and process orders in accordance with established clinical protocols.
- Manage tasks at both the front desk and back office, including check-in, check-out, and clinical support.
- Use electronic health record systems to document encounters, update patient information, and support clinical workflows.
- Deliver excellent customer service by making patients their top priority and ensuring a positive experience.
- Float to satellite clinic locations after training, maintaining consistent quality of care across sites.
- Work effectively under deadlines in a very fast-paced office environment, maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Organize daily workload, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently to support clinic operations.
- Collaborate with providers and clinic staff to support a coordinated, team-based approach to patient care.
Essential Skills
- Current CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) credential or license.
- At least 1 year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinical setting.
- Ability to take manual blood pressure and perform routine vital sign measurements accurately.
- Prior medical experience with both front desk and back office responsibilities, including heavy clinical work.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and basic clinical procedures commonly performed in outpatient clinics.
- Experience using electronic health record systems for documentation and appointment management.
- Strong customer service skills and a patient-first mindset.
- Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced office.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to give instructions and relay information clearly.
- Effective time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Comfort with appointment scheduling and coordinating diagnostic services such as MRIs and CTs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a privately held clinic or outpatient practice.
- Experience in coordinating prior authorizations and pre-certifications with insurance providers.
- Ability to float between multiple clinic locations while maintaining consistent standards of care.

Work Environment
This role is based in an office-style outpatient clinic located within a larger health system, providing access to onsite amenities and full benefit options. The environment is very fast-paced and deadline-driven, with a strong focus on patient care and clinical accuracy. Medical Assistants primarily work in the main clinic location in Knoxville and may float to satellite locations once fully trained; mileage for travel between locations is reimbursed. The position involves both front desk and back office work, including heavy clinical responsibilities, and requires regular use of electronic health record systems, appointment scheduling tools, and standard clinical equipment such as manual blood pressure cuffs and phlebotomy supplies.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Knoxville, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
