Site Superintendent
The Site Superintendent oversees and manages all on-site construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standards. This role coordinates closely with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, while providing strong leadership to on-site staff. The Site Superintendent ensures adherence to safety regulations, maintains quality control, and effectively manages resources and schedules for complex commercial construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise all subcontractors on site to ensure work is completed in a timely, efficient, and high-quality manner.
- Monitor and maintain the project schedule to ensure all job deadlines are met and the project is completed on time without penalties.
- Maintain quality control on the jobsite by overseeing all materials, fixtures, and structures, and cataloging any damages or returns throughout the project.
- Ensure jobsite safety by enforcing compliance with OSHA guidelines and all applicable safety standards for all workers on site.
- Investigate any on-site injuries or incidents and complete detailed incident reports as required.
- Relocate and travel extensively to project sites, remaining on site from the beginning through completion of each project.
- Make decisions regarding discipline or removal of employees and subcontractors from the jobsite when necessary to maintain safety, quality, and productivity.
- Order and procure all necessary equipment, tools, and materials required on site for successful project completion.
- Perform clerical and administrative duties, including filing invoices, receipts, and other documentation, as well as completing tasks assigned by project managers.
- Maintain knowledge of all required permits for the project and ensure permits are obtained, up to date, and properly displayed or documented as needed.
- Conduct daily on-site meetings with subcontractors to communicate job requirements, coordinate activities, and review safety information.
- Be available to owners and clients when they are on site to address questions, concerns, and feedback related to the project build.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and other stakeholders to resolve issues, manage changes, and keep projects aligned with scope, budget, and quality expectations.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of experience in construction management with a focus on site management.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, methods, and materials in commercial construction and ground-up projects.
- Proven experience in construction supervision and site development.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Demonstrated skills in subcontractor management and coordination of general contractor activities.
- Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience directing on-site staff and subcontractors.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with project managers, subcontractors, and clients.
- Ability to solve problems and make sound decisions under pressure in a dynamic construction environment.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and best practices for construction sites.
- Experience with electrical, mechanical, installation, and general construction activities relevant to commercial projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience working with general contractors and commercial construction projects from ground-up.
- Familiarity with site development processes and permit requirements.
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
- Ability to perform basic clerical and administrative tasks related to project documentation and reporting.
- Comfort working closely with clients and owners on site to address concerns and provide project updates.
- Attention to detail in maintaining quality control records, incident reports, and material tracking.
Work Environment
The Site Superintendent works primarily on active construction sites, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other physical hazards typical of commercial construction environments. The role requires frequent walking, standing, and moving around the jobsite, as well as regular interaction with subcontractors, field personnel, and project stakeholders. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required by site safety policies and OSHA guidelines. The position involves extensive travel and relocation to project sites for the full duration of each project, and may require flexibility in working hours to meet project milestones and address on-site issues as they arise.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Memphis, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.06 - $55.29/hr.
