Facilities Technician
Overview
We are seeking a Facilities Technician to support the day-to-day maintenance and operation of a large retail mall. This role is responsible for completing work orders, performing preventive maintenance, and handling general repairs throughout the property. More complex repairs and system issues are managed by specialized vendors, while the Facilities Technician focuses on keeping the facility safe, clean, and operational.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete maintenance work orders accurately and efficiently.
- Perform general building maintenance, including drywall repairs and patching.
- Install, replace, and maintain lighting fixtures and basic electrical components.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs, including fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, and clearing simple clogs.
- Assist with basic HVAC maintenance such as filter changes and routine inspections.
- Conduct regular facility inspections and identify maintenance concerns.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors performing specialized repairs.
- Respond to maintenance requests from tenants and property management.
- Maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas.
- Support upkeep of both interior and exterior facility spaces.
- Follow all safety procedures while working in public areas.
- Document completed work and communicate repair status to management.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in a commercial, residential, or facilities setting.
- Experience with general building maintenance and repairs.
- Basic electrical knowledge, including lighting repair and fixture replacement.
- Basic plumbing experience and ability to perform minor repairs.
- Basic HVAC knowledge and preventative maintenance experience.
- Experience with drywall repair and routine building upkeep.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a retail, mall, commercial property, or large facility environment.
- Knowledge of multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general maintenance.
- Experience working in high-traffic, customer-facing environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with tenants, vendors, and facility management.
- Good communication and organizational skills.

Work Environment & Schedule
- Located in a large indoor retail mall.
- Approximately 80% of work is performed indoors, with occasional outdoor responsibilities.
- Work involves maintaining a well-kept facility with a combination of modern and legacy building systems.
- Schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday plus Saturday coverage.
- Employees receive Sunday and one additional weekday off.
- Work is performed in a public-facing environment where professionalism, customer service, and safety are essential.

A well-rounded maintenance professional with experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drywall repair, and general facilities maintenance who enjoys hands-on work, can independently manage work orders, and takes pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
