Job Description
This position supports a hospital facilities team by maintaining, cleaning, and repairing drain and sewer systems to ensure a safe, sanitary, and fully operational healthcare environment. The Sewer and Drain Technician uses specialized equipment to diagnose and resolve drainage issues, performs preventative maintenance, and assists with basic plumbing repairs while following strict safety and infection control protocols.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, clean, and maintain hospital drain and sewer lines to ensure proper flow and system reliability.
- Diagnose and resolve clogs, backups, and slow-drain issues in various hospital areas.
- Operate drain cleaning equipment such as drain snakes, augers, cutting tools, pumps, and hydro jetting tools.
- Perform hydro jetting services to clear and maintain sewer and drain lines.
- Conduct sewer camera inspections to identify blockages, damage, and flow issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing and drain systems to reduce future issues and service interruptions.
- Assist with basic plumbing repairs, including leaks, pipes, fittings, and fixtures.
- Troubleshoot drain and sewer systems, including diagnosing clogs, backups, and flow issues.
- Respond to service calls in patient care areas, kitchens, restrooms, and other hospital spaces in a timely and professional manner.
- Document work orders, findings, and maintenance activities accurately and completely.
- Apply strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills to identify root causes of plumbing and drainage issues.
- Use proper leak detection techniques to identify and address plumbing leaks.
- Follow all hospital safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols while performing work.
- Comply with safety standards, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA guidelines.
- Manage time effectively to complete assigned tasks and prioritize urgent service calls.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with facilities staff and other hospital personnel.
- Work independently in the field while maintaining a high level of reliability and accountability.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude with tools and equipment used in drain and sewer work.
- Experience with drain cleaning equipment, including snakes, augers, jetters, and related tools.
- Hydro jetting experience for clearing and maintaining drain and sewer lines.
- Sewer camera inspection experience to assess pipe conditions and locate blockages.
- Basic plumbing knowledge, including pipes, fittings, and drain systems.
- Ability to diagnose clogs, backups, and flow issues in drain and sewer systems.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills for plumbing and drainage issues.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance on plumbing systems.
- Safety awareness and compliance with PPE requirements and OSHA standards.
- Leak detection skills for identifying and addressing plumbing leaks.
- Strong customer service and communication skills in a facilities or service environment.
- Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
- Effective time management and reliability in completing assigned tasks.
- Experience working in healthcare, commercial, or facilities environments.
- Hydro jetting or sewer camera inspection experience in a professional setting.
- Plumbing apprentice status, trade certification, or plumbing license.
- Familiarity with PVC pipe and other common plumbing materials.
- Comfort using cameras, pumps, and cutting tools for drain and sewer work.

Work Environment
This role is based in a hospital and healthcare setting with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Work takes place in patient care areas, kitchens, restrooms, and mechanical or utility spaces. The position may involve working in confined spaces, wet environments, and around mechanical and plumbing equipment. You will regularly use tools such as drain snakes, augers, hydro jetting equipment, sewer cameras, pumps, and cutting tools, while following strict safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols and wearing appropriate PPE.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
