The Maintenance Mechanic will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of manufacturing equipment in a heavy industrial steel manufacturing environment. This role focuses on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems across various metal forming and production machines, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment on the shop floor.
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment, including a variety of metal forming machines, cranes, welding machines, sub arc machines, and related production equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues, including wear, misalignment, and component failures, to minimize equipment downtime.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting on machinery, using schematics and blueprints to identify faults and repair electrical components and wiring.
- Conduct hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting, including identifying leaks, pressure issues, and component malfunctions, and performing necessary repairs.
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks on equipment to reduce the likelihood of unplanned breakdowns and extend machinery life.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to guide repair and maintenance activities.
- Use hand tools and testing equipment, including multi-meters, sockets, and wrenches, to perform mechanical and electrical repairs safely and accurately.
- Collaborate with the mechanic lead and other team members to prioritize work orders, share technical knowledge, and support continuous improvement of maintenance processes.
- Follow established safety procedures and guidelines while working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used to maintain accurate equipment records and support future troubleshooting.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in a structural steel or heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical troubleshooting for manufacturing equipment and production machinery.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic troubleshooting, including pumps, valves, cylinders, and related components.
- Experience with mechanical troubleshooting on metal forming machines and other industrial equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
- Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Familiarity with hand tools such as multi-meters, sockets, and wrenches (from 1" down to 5/16").
- Background in steel manufacturing or similar heavy industrial operations.
- Candidates with 1–2 years of maintenance experience in a structural steel or heavy industrial environment may be considered if they are willing to learn and take direction from the mechanic lead.
- Experience working with cranes, welding machines, and sub arc machines in a production setting.
- Knowledge of pneumatics and related troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing equipment issues.
- Willingness to follow established procedures and safety protocols in a heavy industrial shop.
- Interest in ongoing learning and skill development in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing shop focused on steel production. The facility is non-climate controlled, so temperatures will vary with the seasons. You will work around large metal forming machines, cranes, welding equipment, and sub arc machines in a busy production environment. The work is hands-on and physically active, requiring regular use of tools such as multi-meters, sockets, and wrenches. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are expected to ensure safety while working on the shop floor.
