Job Description
This Structural Designer role is based in Houston, Texas and focuses on delivering high-quality structural design and drafting services for oil, gas, refinery, and petrochemical projects. The position requires strong proficiency in CAD tools such as CADWorx, Revit, AutoCAD, and MicroStation, as well as a solid understanding of structural engineering principles and industry standards. The Structural Designer will collaborate closely with engineers and drafters to produce accurate drawings and support the successful execution of complex industrial projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed structural design drawings for concrete and structural steel, and/or civil disciplines using CAD software including CADWorx, Revit, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
- Check the accuracy and quality of drawings prepared by drafters, when assigned, ensuring they align with engineering direction, discipline drawings, and equipment requirements.
- Interpret and apply engineering instructions, specifications, and discipline drawings to create clear and constructible design deliverables.
- Incorporate AISC and ACI standard details into structural designs and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Prepare structural layouts, sections, and details for oil, gas, refinery, and petrochemical projects, including foundations and supporting structures.
- Review and verify dimensions, materials, and construction details to ensure consistency and completeness across all drawings.
- Coordinate with engineers and other disciplines to resolve design issues and integrate structural designs with other project elements.
- Utilize familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment to produce accurate and practical drawings.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation related to structural design and drafting work.
- Support continuous improvement of design practices and drafting standards within the team.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience working with CAD software in a structural design environment.
- Strong working knowledge of CADWorx, including modeling and detailing for structural applications.
- Proficiency with Revit for structural design and documentation.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for 2D and 3D drafting of structural and civil elements.
- Working knowledge of MicroStation for structural and related design tasks.
- Experience in structural design for oil, gas, refinery, and petrochemical projects.
- Ability to produce detailed drawings for concrete and structural steel, and/or civil disciplines.
- Knowledge and practical application of AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) standard details.
- Knowledge and practical application of ACI (American Concrete Institute) standard details.
- Ability to check and verify the accuracy and quality of drawings produced by others.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret engineering direction and discipline drawings.
- Experience with structural foundations in industrial environments.
- Background in structural engineering or structural design for heavy industrial facilities.
- Exposure to refinery and petrochemical facilities and their specific design requirements.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, drafters, and other disciplines.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple design tasks and documentation.
- Effective communication skills to clarify design requirements and resolve technical issues.
This role is based in an office environment with standard working hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position supports industrial projects in the oil, gas, refinery, and petrochemical sectors and involves daily use of CAD tools such as CADWorx, Revit, AutoCAD, and MicroStation. The work setting emphasizes collaboration with engineering and drafting teams, consistent use of structural design standards, and adherence to project schedules. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
