The Pipe Layer installs and connects water, sewer, storm drain, and other wet utility piping systems on construction sites. This role focuses primarily on laying and connecting water and sewer pipe, working in trenches and confined spaces up to 20 feet deep. The Pipe Layer supports excavation, grading, bedding, and backfilling operations while reading and following project plans, grades, and utility layouts. The position requires safely lifting, carrying, and positioning pipe and materials weighing more than 50 pounds, adhering to OSHA standards and company safety procedures, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment in collaboration with equipment operators and other crew members.
Responsibilities- Install water, sewer, storm drain, and other wet utility piping systems according to project specifications.
- Lay and connect water and sewer pipe as the primary focus of daily work.
- Work safely in trenches and confined spaces up to 20 feet deep.
- Assist with excavation activities, including grading, bedding, and backfilling operations around installed utilities.
- Read and interpret project plans, grades, and utility layouts to ensure accurate pipe placement.
- Safely lift, carry, and position pipe and related materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Follow OSHA standards and all company safety procedures at all times on the job site.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the project.
- Collaborate effectively with equipment operators and other crew members to coordinate site activities.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including work boots, hard hat, safety vest, and work gloves, during all work activities.
- Adapt to varying weather conditions and construction site environments while maintaining productivity.
- Support site preparation activities before structures are built, ensuring utilities are properly installed.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding project progress and any safety concerns.
- Hands-on experience installing water, sewer, storm drain, and other wet utility piping systems.
- Proficiency in laying and connecting water and sewer pipe in trench and confined space environments.
- Ability to work safely in trenches and confined spaces up to 20 feet deep.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing over 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Capability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods while working outdoors.
- Comfort working in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
- Ability to read and follow project plans, grades, and utility layouts.
- Knowledge of and commitment to following OSHA standards and safety procedures.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Valid water license related to utility or water system work.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills for collaborating with equipment operators and crew members.
- Experience operating a wheel loader on construction sites.
- Experience operating an excavator in utility or site preparation work.
- Ability to safely drive and operate loaders on construction sites.
- Multi-skilled utility construction experience across different types of wet utilities.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment used in excavation and site preparation.
- Basic understanding of excavation practices, grading, bedding, and backfilling techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints related to utility layouts.
- Reliability in maintaining consistent attendance for a Monday–Friday schedule with overtime as needed.

Work EnvironmentThe work environment is primarily on active construction sites, focusing on site preparation and utility installation before any structures are built. Team members work outdoors in varying weather conditions and must be comfortable standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods. The standard schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with approximately 5 to 10 hours of overtime typically available. Work is physically demanding and involves frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials weighing more than 50 pounds. Safety is a core priority, and required personal protective equipment includes work boots, a hard hat, a safety vest, and work gloves, which must be worn at all times on the job site. The environment involves collaboration with equipment operators and other crew members around excavation and heavy equipment, and employees are expected to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
