This role involves installing air handling units (AHUs), rooftop units (RTUs), exhaust fans and systems, variable air volume (VAV) boxes, louvers, dampers, and associated ductwork for HVAC projects under the direction of a jobsite foreman. The sheet metal technician ensures high-quality installations that align with project specifications, drawings, and safety standards.
Responsibilities- Install air handling units (AHUs), rooftop units (RTUs), exhaust fans and systems, variable air volume (VAV) boxes, louvers, dampers, and related ductwork according to project requirements.
- Work under the direction of a jobsite foreman to complete HVAC sheet metal installations safely, accurately, and on schedule.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan and execute ductwork layouts and equipment placements.
- Measure, cut, assemble, and install sheet metal duct systems to ensure proper fit, alignment, and airflow performance.
- Verify that installed duct systems and equipment meet quality, safety, and functional standards.
- Use appropriate tools and equipment to fabricate, adjust, and secure ductwork and HVAC components.
- Coordinate with other trades on site to ensure smooth integration of duct systems with overall building systems.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all site safety procedures and guidelines.
- Travel to various job sites as required and operate a vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
- At least 4 years of experience at a journeyman level in sheet metal or HVAC duct installation (license not required).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints for HVAC and duct systems.
- Demonstrated ability to install complete duct systems, including AHUs, RTUs, exhaust fans, VAVs, louvers, dampers, and associated ductwork.
- Hands-on experience with sheet metal installation and ductwork fabrication and assembly.
- Solid understanding of HVAC installation practices and duct installation standards.
- Ability to follow directions from a jobsite foreman and work effectively as part of a field installation team.
- Valid driver’s license.
- United States citizenship.
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work early morning shifts.
- Capability to work extended hours, including overtime, when required by project schedules.
- Previous experience working on commercial or large-scale HVAC projects.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic installation issues in the field.
- Comfort working in a variety of jobsite conditions, including active construction environments.
- Willingness to work occasional six-day weeks and 12-hour shifts when projects require overtime.

Work EnvironmentThis is a field-based role in active construction and installation environments. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, typically 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., depending on the week. Certain projects, such as those in Fairfax, may require a six-day workweek with 12-hour shifts, offering overtime opportunities for those interested. The work involves installing HVAC ductwork and equipment on job sites, using standard sheet metal and HVAC tools, and working under the direction of a jobsite foreman. The environment may include varying temperatures, noise levels, and physical activity such as standing, lifting, and working at heights, consistent with typical construction and mechanical installation settings. Appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment are expected to align with jobsite safety requirements.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ashburn, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
