Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for establishing billing formats for client approval, preparing billings in conformance with contract terms, inputting invoice information into the accounting system, and extracting and analyzing project costs. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with various teams and stakeholders within the construction industry.
Responsibilities
- Establish the billing format for client approval and prepare billings in conformance with contract terms and conditions.
- Input invoice information into the accounting system.
- Extract and analyze project costs across categories such as labor, materials, and overhead, and verify accuracy with the Project Management team.
- Compile backup for billing documents.
- Assist the Project Management Team with accurate forecasting of estimates and monthly billing accruals based on historical data and other factors.
- Assist the pre-construction team in analyzing historical data to produce accurate estimates for Fee + General Contractor bids.
- Assist with project audits.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the construction project team(s) and stakeholders.
- Generate and provide Certificates of Insurance (COIs) to clients or other third parties as needed.
- Utilize the system to track and manage all customer COIs and renewal dates, ensuring timely follow-up for expiring policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of experience in Project Accounting, with experience in a large ERP system (Viewpoint preferred).
- Mid to advanced level Excel skills, including Vlookup, Pivot Tables, Sorting, and Grouping.
- Experience handling large volumes of data (e.g., 50,000 rows of Excel data).
- Proficiency in GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) Cost-Plus Billing.
- General ledger and reconciliation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction accounting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Understanding of Cost Plus and/or Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contracts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Viewpoint experience a plus).
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- High degree of confidentiality while maintaining various employment records and other sensitive information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (or equivalent).
- 3-5 years of experience in the construction industry.
- Experience working with critical deadlines.
Work Environment
The role operates Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM, in an office setting. Some hybrid flexibility may be available after 9-12 months in the role.
