Job Description
We are seeking a Software Engineer to join a key Cyber engineering team that is building new security architectures for large Naval Submarine subsystems. This technology fosters a common, open-architecture system-of-systems electronic designs aboard submarines to promote interoperability during joint operations. Essentially, this system acts as the central nervous system of a submarine, connecting all the subsystems. Engineers in this role will utilize their expertise to write secure code for communications between Kubernetes and a private cloud for edge communication. The primary goal is to write defense code to secure communication, as this system controls all the submarine's subsystems.
Responsibilities
- Write secure and defensive code for communications in Kubernetes and private cloud environments.
- Ensure interoperability of submarine subsystems through secure electronic designs.
- Collaborate with a team of engineers to secure Edge Communication components of critical submarine systems.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- 5-10+ years of software development experience in C or C++ within a Linux/Unix environment.
- Proficiency in network packet captures.
- Familiarity with Linux systems.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
- Knowledge of basic networking concepts including switch, router, firewall, and IDS.
- Eligibility for Secret Clearance (Interim to start).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with cloud technologies such as Kubernetes and containers.
- Knowledge of Secure Coding Practices (RMF, STIG) and/or Cyber Security Solutions development.
- Understanding of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
- Experience with large system development involving 10+ servers.
- Capability to research Cybersecurity capabilities, perform trade studies, and provide expertise to peers and leadership.
Work Environment
This role offers a hybrid work environment, allowing work from home during development stages and onsite presence during integration and testing phases. The workweek consists of four 10-hour days, offering a flexible schedule. The current team consists of three members, and two additional members will be added this year.
