Job Description
This Pharmacy Technician Fulfillment role focuses on the accurate preparation and distribution of prescription medications within a fast-paced micro fulfillment center. You will use a fulfillment system to prepare prescription orders, support insurance and billing resolution, and collaborate closely with pharmacists, patients, and prescribers. This position offers a contract-to-hire path and an excellent opportunity for newly certified technicians to gain hands-on experience in a non-retail pharmacy setting.
Responsibilities
- Prepare prescription medications accurately using the pharmacy fulfillment system in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Process prescription exceptions, including resolving claim rejections and performing member and physician outreach as needed.
- Enter member demographics and prescription information into the data processing system with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Research and resolve rejected insurance billing issues, ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement for prescription claims.
- Investigate and resolve escalated member issues related to prescriptions, insurance, or fulfillment, escalating to appropriate team members when necessary.
- Escalate questions regarding prescriptions to a Pharmacist for clinical interpretation or to obtain direction on proper processing.
- Assist with inbound patient or physician calls, providing clear, professional communication and appropriate follow-up.
- Support outbound calls to patients or prescribers as needed to clarify prescription details, resolve issues, or coordinate fulfillment.
- Work efficiently at an assigned station within the micro fulfillment center, maintaining productivity, accuracy, and adherence to workflow standards.
- Follow all pharmacy regulations, company policies, and safety procedures while handling medications and protected health information.
- Contribute to a team-oriented environment by collaborating with colleagues to meet fulfillment goals and service expectations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area within the micro fulfillment center.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current Pharmacy Technician certification and/or license as required by the state of operation.
- Certification or license that remains valid and will not expire within the next 90 days.
- 1–4 years of Pharmacy Technician experience, or at least 6 months of experience with the ability to demonstrate competency through testing if newly certified.
- Experience preparing and processing prescription medications in a pharmacy or fulfillment environment.
- Ability to enter member demographics and prescription information accurately into data processing systems.
- Experience researching and resolving rejected insurance billing issues and claim rejections.
- Ability to manage member and physician outreach related to prescription exceptions and issues.
- Strong communication skills for handling inbound and outbound calls with patients and prescribers.
- Capability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to stand on feet for the majority of the shift and work at an assigned station.
- Willingness to escalate clinical or processing questions to a Pharmacist when appropriate.
- Pharmacy Technician certification, license, or certificate recognized by the state.
- Pharmacy technician trainee license may be considered, subject to state requirements and demonstrated competency.
- Experience working in a micro fulfillment center, assembly line, or warehousing environment is beneficial.
- Comfort using fulfillment technologies and data processing systems.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a structured workflow.
- Interest in transitioning from retail pharmacy to a fulfillment center environment for improved work-life quality.
- Openness to a contract-to-hire arrangement with potential for long-term employment.
This role is based onsite at a micro fulfillment center, operating in a very fast-paced environment similar to an assembly line or warehousing setting. Pharmacy technicians work at assigned stations and spend the majority of the day on their feet while preparing and processing prescription orders. The facility uses fulfillment systems and data processing technologies to manage high-volume prescription workflows. The position follows a structured schedule, with available shifts including Sunday through Wednesday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The environment emphasizes efficiency, accuracy, and teamwork, offering a quality-of-life alternative to traditional retail pharmacy settings. Dress and conduct are expected to be professional and appropriate for a healthcare-related fulfillment operation.

This is a Contract position based out of Mechanicsville, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.50 - $17.50/hr.
