Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Fitter/Fabricator to join our team in a leading steel fabrication facility. The role involves reading blueprints and tape measures to build layouts and perform tack welding. You will be responsible for fitting heavy and mild steel, as well as assembling, aligning, and preparing structural steel components for welding.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints to understand dimensions and assembly requirements.
- Lay out and position steel components such as beams, columns, and plates using tools like tape measures and levels.
- Utilize fabrication tools including torches, grinders, clamps, and cranes.
- Prep parts by taking them off machines and laying them out based on blueprints.
- Perform assembly and tack welding before welders finalize the welds.
- 3+ years of heavy industrial fabrication and fitting experience on structural steel.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and welding symbols.
- Ability to independently lay out and tack weld.
- Experience with structural steel fabrication and fitting.
- Familiarity with fabrication tools and equipment.

Work Environment
Work in a 200,000 sq. ft. steel fabrication shop operating on the 1st shift from Monday to Friday, 6 am to 4:30 pm, with occasional work on Saturdays. The environment is loud and heavy industrial, prioritizing safety. The facility is not climate-controlled, so expect cold conditions in winter and hot conditions in summer. Equipped with overhead cranes and dedicated fitting stations, proper safety gear such as steel toe boots, safety glasses, welding gloves, and personal protective equipment are required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr.
