The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role requires expertise in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The phlebotomist collects and stores specimens according to established procedures while providing clear explanations of the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections as required.
Responsibilities- Perform blood draws using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
- Ensure accurate matching of laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results.

- At least 2 years of blood draw experience
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2-4 years of experience
- Pediatric and geriatric experience is preferred
The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with every other Saturday from 7:30 to 11:30 am. The site accommodates approximately 120-140 patients per day, divided among a team of five. The environment is fast-paced with a focus on both pediatric and geriatric care.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Springfield, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
