Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our team. The successful candidate will follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements and be responsible for identifying and quantifying cost factors in the production or execution of a product or service. This role involves developing and maintaining the cost accounting system, documentation, and records, while also compiling documentation on standard costs and company production costs. You will determine the costs and efficiency of company purchasing activities, collect and compile purchasing data for analysis, and prepare, analyze, and report monthly gross margin analysis by customer, part number, and production job.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records and update existing and new purchased materials and goods.
  • Track cost of goods sold and calculate overhead costs.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing by analyzing inventory and preparing supplemental reports as needed.
  • Perform account reconciliations and analyze, prepare, and record inventory reserves.
  • Partner with the inventory/operations team on physical inventory count, E&O analysis, disposal of inventory, etc.
  • Recommend changes to the company’s processes and policies to reduce costs and maximize profit.
  • Manage the company’s balance sheet and accounting books.
  • Work across teams to present and translate important financial information.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reporting and ad hoc analysis, acting as a backup within the team as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 3-5+ years of technical accounting experience, including ASC 606 and 842.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience showing career progression.
  • 3+ years of cost accounting experience or experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency in cost accounting, month-end procedures, reconciliation, general ledger management, and inventory accounting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business.
  • CPA or CMA highly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing operations and inventory.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.

Work Environment

This role operates Monday to Friday during normal business hours in our Sterling, VA office, with the possibility of a hybrid working arrangement after an initial period.
