Job Description
This position plays a critical role in assembling polymer cores, attaching metal end fittings, and ensuring each insulator meets strict mechanical and electrical performance standards. It requires hands-on mechanical skill, experience with hydraulic or pneumatic crimping tools, and the ability to follow exact pressure specifications for every crimp.
Responsibilities
- Assemble polymer insulator components according to detailed work instructions, drawings, and quality standards.
- Operate hydraulic and pneumatic crimping equipment to attach metal end fittings to polymer rods.
- Set, verify, and follow precise pressure and force specifications for each crimping operation.
- Inspect crimped assemblies for proper depth, alignment, bonding, and structural integrity.
- Support polymer molding, curing, and material preparation processes as needed.
- Use measurement tools (calipers, gauges, micrometers) to confirm dimensional accuracy.
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE, equipment handling, and lockout/tagout.
- Communicate defects, equipment issues, or material shortages promptly to supervision.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts and team-based problem solving.
- Production and assembly experience.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools.
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic crimping tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Mechanical skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with crimping tools (manual or powered).
- Experience with pneumatic crimping tools with adjustable pressure.
- Ability to use torque wrenches and torque-controlled tools.
- Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, and depth gauges for dimensional checks.
- Experience using go/no-go gauges for verifying crimp tolerances.
- Skill with cutting tools (cable cutters, trimming tools, utility knives).
- Experience with hand tools (pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, mallets).
- Experience with measurement and inspection tools used in ISO-controlled environments.

Work Environment
Work the 3rd Shift from 11pm to 7:15am, Sunday through Thursday, in a non-climate-controlled production facility where temperatures can be very hot during summer. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with polymer molding and hydraulic/pneumatic crimping equipment. Employees are encouraged to stay hydrated at their workstations and work in a structured, team-oriented setting with established safety procedures. Enjoy a consistent full-time schedule with opportunities for overtime based on production demand.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
