The Distribution Designer provides comprehensive design services for overhead and underground electric distribution systems ranging from 4kV to 69kV. This role focuses on creating accurate and efficient designs, performing quality reviews, maintaining project schedules, monitoring budget impacts, identifying risks, and recommending improvements that enhance the design and construction of distribution projects.
Responsibilities- Design overhead and underground electric distribution facilities for systems ranging from 4kV to 69kV.
- Prepare detailed design sketches, drawings, cost estimates, bills of material, and other construction documentation required to support project execution.
- Apply relevant standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, procedures, and industry codes when developing designs for electric distribution facilities.
- Perform distribution system design calculations to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance with technical requirements.
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of construction design documents, including plan and profile drawings, structure loading diagrams, detailed design drawings, trench and conduit layouts, and equipment specifications.
- Communicate effectively with clients and engineers to understand system requirements and design criteria, and identify appropriate Right of Way for proposed equipment installations.
- Acquire field data as needed to support accurate design, and collaborate with field surveying teams to develop complete and precise design packages.
- Monitor and maintain project schedules, report changes that may affect timelines and budgets, and help identify risks that could impact project cost or schedule.
- Present opportunities to improve design efficiency, constructability, and overall quality of distribution projects.
- At least five years of design experience using MicroStation or AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) tools, including AutoCAD and MicroStation, for utility or infrastructure projects.
- Strong drafting skills with the ability to prepare accurate design sketches, drawings, and construction documentation.
- Ability to perform electric distribution system design calculations for overhead and underground facilities.
- Experience preparing bills of material, cost estimates, and technical specifications for construction projects.
- Knowledge of standards, guidelines, specifications, and industry practices related to electric distribution design.
- Ability to interpret field data and survey information and incorporate it into detailed design documents.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers, clients, and field personnel on system requirements and design solutions.
- Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided (CAD) design, or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Background in design and drafting for utility, piping, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience preparing plan and profile drawings, structure loadings, trench and conduit drawings, and equipment specifications.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate design work.
This role operates primarily in a remote work environment, providing flexibility in scheduling and daily work hours. Occasional visits to the office are expected for collaboration, project meetings, or coordination with team members. Work is largely computer-based, using CAD software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation to develop design and construction documents. The position supports both independent work and team-based projects, offering a balance of focused design time and collaborative interaction with engineers, field personnel, and other stakeholders.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.00 - $36.00/hr.
