Job Title: Trades Helper / Marine Trades Assistant
Job Description
This role supports marine trades professionals in a shipyard and shop environment by assisting with installation, fabrication, and general trade activities. You read and interpret drawings and specifications, use basic hand and power tools, and provide reliable support across multiple marine projects while developing your skills for future advancement into specialized trades.
Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and apply drawings and specifications to determine installation requirements for marine systems and components.
- Assist trades personnel with marine installations, fabrication tasks, and general shipyard activities.
- Use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively to support daily work, including cutting, drilling, fastening, and assembly tasks.
- Support electrical and wiring activities under supervision, including routing and securing conduit and cabling.
- Assist with industrial and marine work such as basic lagging, welding and fabrication support, and preparation of materials and work areas.
- Work alongside sonar technicians, welders, pipefitters, and mechanics to support their tasks and learn trade practices.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the shipyard and shop.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members to understand work assignments and report progress.
- Demonstrate a strong desire and aptitude to learn new skills and take on increasing responsibility over time.
Essential Skills
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply drawings and specifications to determine installation requirements.
- Basic knowledge of how to use hand tools and power tools in an industrial or marine environment.
- Willingness and aptitude to learn new marine trade skills and follow instructions accurately.
- Ability to work safely in a shipyard and shop setting while consistently using required PPE.
- Basic understanding or exposure to marine, industrial, or shipyard work.
- Capability to assist with electrical, wiring, conduit, welding, fabrication, and lagging tasks under supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical guidance.
- Reliable work ethic and ability to perform physical tasks in an industrial environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Interest in developing skills in welding, pipefitting, mechanics, or other marine trades.
- Comfort working around industrial equipment and marine systems such as sonar and electrical installations.
- No formal qualifications or certifications required for entry into this role.
- No medical clearances required for employment in this position.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bremerton, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
