Equipment Engineering/ Field Service Engineering
As the Equipment Engineer you will be directly responsible for driving improvements in equipment uptime, availability, and capability for systems supporting the production of next-generation spacecraft. You’ll manage the full lifecycle of key integration and test equipment—from requirements specification and design concept through sourcing, integration, qualification, pilot operation, and long-term optimization, all the way to end-of-life services.
Your expertise in electro-mechanical systems will be critical to ensuring smooth integration and high system availability. You’ll use data-driven analysis to develop preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting protocols, and critical spares strategies. You’ll also play a key role in scaling production capacity through capital investment planning and automation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop system requirements and collaborate with development teams to drive detailed equipment design.
- Participate in sourcing strategies for complex equipment (both COTS and custom-built).
- Lead equipment integration and site acceptance testing.
- Create and implement troubleshooting guides, preventative maintenance schedules, and spare parts plans.
- Provide second-line support for critical equipment downtime issues.
- Define and develop facility interface requirements (e.g., power, networking, space, LN2/GN2, PCW).
- Train and support technicians responsible for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
Typical Day Breakdown
- 50% of your time will be spent on the shop floor, working with production teams to implement new processes, review & solve key technical blockers in production, performing production development testing, etc.
- 25% of time will be spent performing independent development work such as deep diving on available data sets to identify and implement key production improvement actions, acting on quality escapes by developing and implementing new quality control measures, developing & executing to existing roadmaps for capacity increase, process simplification, etc.
- 25% of time will be spent in meeting settings, collaborating with others on topics such as new design introductions, production process change management, production solution finding reviews, etc.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in space flight hardware manufacturing.
- Background in mechatronic/electro-mechanical systems design and integration.
- Familiarity with low-rate manufacturing environments and new product introduction (NPI).
- Proficiency in root cause analysis techniques (e.g., Fishbone, Fault Tree, DMAIC).
- Experience with PLC and DAQ systems.
- Ability to read rack elevation diagrams, wiring diagrams, and apply GD&T principles.
