About the Opportunity
A respected non-profit organization in South Lake Union is seeking a Staff Accountant on a temporary-to-hire basis. In this highly visible role, you will oversee payroll operations, accounts payable activities, financial reporting, compliance initiatives, and audit support.
This position operates on a hybrid schedule following an initial on-site training period, with in-office attendance required Tuesday through Thursday.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
What You'll Do
Payroll Administration
- Process accurate and timely semi-monthly payroll
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational requirements
- Serve as payroll system administrator and primary liaison with external payroll providers
- Allocate payroll and benefits across multiple funding sources and prepare related journal entries
- Reconcile payroll activity within the accounting system (MIP)
- Generate payroll reports for Accounting and HR teams
- Manage payroll calendars, direct deposit setup, tax filings, and deductions
- Research and stay current on payroll regulations and compliance requirements
- Respond to employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies
Accounts Payable & Financial Operations
- Process vendor invoices and employee reimbursement requests
- Review, code, and verify all A/P transactions
- Execute check runs and submit positive pay reports
- Reconcile A/P aging schedules and general ledger balances
- Maintain vendor records and compliance with W-9, W-8, 1099, and 1042-S requirements
- Process travel and corporate credit card reimbursements
- Resolve vendor inquiries and payment discrepancies
- Track and record applicable use tax obligations
- Maintain documentation, filing systems, and cash receipt records
Reporting, Compliance & Audit Support
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports
- Assist with financial statement, retirement plan, and single audits
- Document accounting procedures and internal controls
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards
- Monitor education benefit utilization and maintain supporting records
- Process deposits and maintain cash receipt logs
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
✔ 4-6 years of Staff Accountant experience in a corporate environment
✔ Experience with the MIP Accounting System
✔ Strong understanding of payroll administration, regulations, and compliance requirements
✔ Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access
✔ Strong attention to detail and reconciliation experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Non-profit accounting experience
- General ledger and journal entry experience
- Project accounting knowledge
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable experience
- Month-end close and reporting experience
- Working knowledge of AP Aging, W-9, W-8, 1099, and 1042-S requirements

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seattle, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $34.00 - $36.00/hr.
