Job Title: Field Survey Technician
Job Description
The Field Survey Technician travels to project sites across the country to document existing building conditions and systems. This role collects accurate field measurements, captures detailed visual and 3D records, and compiles organized existing conditions reports that support design, construction, and project management teams. The position blends fieldwork, technical documentation, and coordination with internal stakeholders to ensure reliable information for ongoing and future projects.
Responsibilities
- Travel to job sites nationwide to document existing building conditions and layouts.
- Take precise field measurements and verify existing layouts against available documentation.
- Perform 3D scans to record building conditions and spatial layouts.
- Identify and document existing HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems in the field.
- Capture clear photos and detailed notes to communicate site conditions accurately to the internal team.
- Complete existing conditions reports with organized, accurate, and comprehensive information.
- Assist with drafting existing conditions drawings as needed, based on field measurements and scans.
- Perform site visits and construction observations to verify conditions and progress when required.
- Coordinate closely with internal team members to ensure information is complete, consistent, and usable for project needs.
Essential Skills
- 3–5 years of experience in construction, engineering, surveying, or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and documents.
- General understanding of HVAC systems, including how they are typically laid out and identified in the field.
- General understanding of plumbing systems and their components.
- General understanding of electrical systems and their major components.
- Experience working with construction documents and field verification processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when taking measurements and documenting conditions.
- Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining clear communication with the internal team.
- Solid organizational skills to compile, structure, and present existing conditions information clearly.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with AutoCAD for creating or updating drawings.
- Experience documenting existing conditions or performing field surveys.
- Exposure to construction management tools such as Procore, Primavera P6, or MS Project.
- Knowledge of Autodesk Building Systems or similar building systems software.
- Background in construction management, MEP systems, or related disciplines.
- Experience working with 3D scanners and digital survey tools.
Work Environment
This is a full-time role with a Monday through Friday schedule. The majority of work occurs in the field at active or existing building sites, with frequent travel across different regions, including overnight trips as needed. The position involves regular use of survey and measurement tools, 3D scanning equipment, and digital platforms for documenting and organizing field data. You will collaborate remotely and in person with internal team members, often working in varied building environments and construction settings that require adaptability and comfort with being on-site for extended periods.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $75000.00/yr.
