Job Title: Field Service Technician


Job Description

We are looking for field technicians for a packaging company that specializes in the food & beverage industry. These technicians will be traveling 90-100% of the time to install and commission packaging systems, which include working on automated machine systems within filling, labeling, blow moulding, dry end, and inspection. The role requires the ability to troubleshoot Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs, train customers on new equipment operation and maintenance, and collaborate with customers and sales staff to ensure equipment functionality.


Responsibilities

  • Receive trip assignments from inside schedulers and make travel arrangements to arrive on time according to customer requirements.
  • Train customers for successful operation and maintenance; demonstrate how to make changes for different size or format packaging, and provide preliminary invoices for customer signatures.
  • Work under the direction of technicians to start up new machines, check power systems and wiring, observe the lockout tag-out process to check machine components' functionality, and ensure the product is moving through properly.
  • Interview customers to determine machine problems, perform basic troubleshooting on machine functioning, and verify the problem's location.
  • Perform hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on specified machines to ensure proper functioning according to specifications; coordinate with customers and the Parts department to order any needed parts.
  • Troubleshoot, modify, or edit programs of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Audit and document missing or bypassed safety devices on machines and replace or repair them.
  • Prepare concise, accurate, professional, and timely Equipment Acceptance Reports, Service Work Reports, Expense Reports, and other support documentation for customer visits. Communicate with internal staff to report on service activities and submit reports within three weeks after the end of a job.
  • Periodically inspect customer spare parts inventory and recommend additional parts orders as needed for successful equipment maintenance and operation.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2+ years of troubleshooting Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs.
  • At least 2+ years of machine field service experience.
  • Ability to perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Experience with PLC programming, automation, and HMI.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics.
  • Proficiency in preventive maintenance, installation, and assembly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with maintenance repair and field service.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Work Environment

Candidates will be traveling 90-100% of the time, with schedules typically consisting of 2-3 weeks on and one weekend off. The role involves working in a manufacturing environment to install new equipment and repair already commissioned equipment. Candidates will work an average of 55 hours per week.
