The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist develops, implements, and maintains environmental, health, and safety programs that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies while fostering a safe, sustainable workplace. This role leads safety audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs); creates and delivers EHS policies, procedures, and training programs; supports lockout/tagout and energy isolation practices; and drives corrective and preventive actions. The specialist oversees environmental compliance activities, including waste management, hazardous materials handling, permit compliance, wastewater management, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory reporting, while partnering closely with employees, leadership, regulatory agencies, and auditors to enhance EHS performance, support emergency preparedness, and integrate safety and environmental requirements into site operations and continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs that align with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards, evaluate controls, and recommend improvements.
- Lead and document incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce recurrence.
- Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) to identify risks associated with specific tasks and ensure appropriate controls and safe work practices.
- Create, update, and communicate EHS policies, procedures, and guidelines to support a strong safety culture and regulatory compliance.
- Design, deliver, and coordinate safety and environmental training programs for employees at all levels, ensuring understanding and adherence to EHS requirements.
- Support lockout/tagout and energy isolation practices by developing procedures, providing guidance, and verifying compliance with established standards.
- Oversee environmental compliance activities, including proper waste management, hazardous materials handling, and wastewater management processes.
- Manage and monitor permit compliance and regulatory reporting related to environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Promote and support sustainability initiatives that reduce environmental impact and improve resource efficiency.
- Collaborate with site leadership, employees, regulatory agencies, and auditors to maintain compliance and continuously improve EHS performance.
- Support emergency preparedness and response efforts, including planning, training, and coordination of drills and exercises.
- Integrate safety and environmental requirements into site operations, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant OSHA, EPA, and other federal, state, and local regulations and apply this knowledge to site practices.
- 3–5 years of environmental, health, and safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or chemical industry setting.
- Proven experience conducting incident investigations, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance related to OSHA, EPA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Experience developing and delivering safety training programs for diverse employee groups.
- Strong understanding of occupational health and safety principles, environmental health, and hazardous waste management.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, energy isolation, and safety program implementation.
- Ability to conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Proficiency in interpreting and applying OSHA safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to partner with employees, leadership, regulatory agencies, and auditors.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills for managing policies, procedures, training records, and regulatory reports.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is preferred.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification is preferred.
- Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) certification is preferred.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification is preferred.
- HAZWOPER certification is preferred.
- Experience supporting sustainability initiatives and environmental performance improvement.
- Ability to integrate safety and environmental requirements into continuous improvement and operational excellence programs.
This position operates in a manufacturing, industrial, or chemical industry environment where adherence to established safety and environmental procedures is critical. The role typically follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with on-site presence required to conduct audits, inspections, training, and incident investigations. The specialist interacts regularly with operations personnel, leadership, and external regulators or auditors in production areas, offices, and environmental management facilities. Personal protective equipment is used as required by site policies and regulatory standards, and work may involve exposure to typical industrial conditions such as noise, machinery, and controlled handling of hazardous materials, all within a structured and safety-focused workplace.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
