In this role, you transform complex customer requirements into practical low- and medium-voltage power distribution and control solutions. You work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to design and deliver switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, and control panels for customers around the world. The position blends applications knowledge with electrical and mechanical design, manufacturing support, quality, and safety, offering a dynamic environment with varied, challenging projects and a strong focus on collaboration and shared goals.
Responsibilities
- Oversee electrical designs for low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, and control panels.
- Review customer drawings and specifications and develop electrical designs that meet all technical and functional requirements.
- Create one-line and three-line power distribution drawings for low- and medium-voltage systems.
- Develop detailed electrical schematics for control systems, ensuring clarity and accuracy for manufacturing and testing teams.
- Size electrical components such as transformers, current transformers, fuses, cabling, bussing, and circuit breakers in accordance with UL 891 and NEC standards.
- Develop sequences of operation for power distribution and control equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient system performance.
- Create testing plans and documentation for power distribution and control equipment to verify compliance with design and regulatory requirements.
- Support manufacturing teams by clarifying designs, resolving technical issues, and ensuring accurate implementation of electrical drawings and specifications.
- Assist testing and quality teams in troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues during factory acceptance tests and inspections.
- Provide technical support to field service teams to ensure proper installation, commissioning, and operation of equipment in the field.
- Configure and program devices such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), protective relays, transfer switches, circuit breakers, and controllers.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to develop optimal solutions that balance performance, cost, manufacturability, and safety.
- Support the development of custom engineering solutions for low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear and panel systems tailored to specific customer applications.
- Apply relevant UL, IEEE/ANSI, and NEC/NFPA 70E standards throughout the design and documentation process.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design practices, tools, and standards within the engineering team.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of relevant electrical design experience in power distribution, control systems, or closely related applications (preferred).
- Internship experience strongly desired
- 1+ years of exposure to control panel design, fabrication, or integration.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical for creating one-line, three-line, and detailed schematic drawings.
- Experience with SolidWorks Electrical for panel layout and electrical design.
- Experience with EPLAN for electrical documentation and schematic development.
- Strong understanding of electrical design principles for low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution and control systems.
- Working knowledge of UL 891 and UL 508A standards for switchboards, switchgear, and industrial control panels.
- Working knowledge of IEEE/ANSI standards relevant to power distribution and protection.
- Working knowledge of NEC and NFPA 70E requirements for electrical safety and code compliance.
- Ability to size transformers, current transformers, fuses, cabling, bussing, and circuit breakers to meet design and code requirements.
- Experience creating one-line and three-line diagrams and detailed control schematics.
- Ability to develop sequences of operation and testing plans for power distribution and control equipment.
- Experience configuring and programming devices such as PLCs, VFDs, protective relays, transfer switches, circuit breakers, and controllers.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, and field service teams.
- Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to quality and safety.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment focused on custom low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear and panel systems.
- Panel design and control system integration using modern CAD and electrical design tools.
- Familiarity with cross-functional project work, including coordination with operations and field service teams.
- Interest in continuous learning and participating in training to deepen expertise in electrical design, standards, and safety.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with a strong focus on teamwork and shared goals.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role based in a newly renovated facility, working Monday through Friday. You operate in a cross-collaborative environment where engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, and field service teams work closely together to deliver custom power distribution and control solutions. The culture emphasizes family values, mutual support, and open communication, creating a supportive and inclusive workplace. You use modern design tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, and EPLAN, and work directly with production and test areas to see your designs through to completion.
