Job Title: Janitor / Environmental Services (EVS) Aide
Job Description
The Janitor / Environmental Services (EVS) Aide maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the hospital. This role is essential to infection prevention, patient satisfaction, and smooth facility operations by ensuring all assigned areas consistently meet established cleanliness and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, bathrooms, operating rooms, and common areas in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Perform routine and terminal cleaning procedures to support infection control standards.
- Empty trash, biohazard waste, and recycling bins in compliance with safety regulations.
- Clean, sanitize, and remove trash from all assigned hospital areas, ensuring spaces remain orderly and presentable.
- Restock supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and hand sanitizer in designated areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors using appropriate equipment, cleaning solutions, and floor care techniques.
- Perform floor care tasks including buffing floors and maintaining floor surfaces in a safe and attractive condition.
- Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal procedures for hazardous materials and chemicals.
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and urgent cleaning needs to maintain a safe environment.
- Maintain cleaning equipment in good working order and promptly report maintenance or repair needs.
- Use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely and according to established procedures.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, including safety, infection control, and HIPAA confidentiality standards.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with nursing staff, patients, visitors, and team members.
- Work collaboratively with the environmental services team to ensure all assigned areas meet cleanliness and quality expectations.
- Manage time efficiently to complete daily task assignments and special cleaning projects within required timeframes.

- Customer service orientation with a professional and respectful approach to patients and staff.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous housekeeping, janitorial, or environmental services experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience with janitorial duties such as mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, and trash removal.
- Familiarity with environmental services practices in a clinical or hospital environment.
- Experience with floor care, including buffing and polishing floors, is a plus.

Work Environment
This role is based in a fast-paced hospital environment with a regulated indoor temperature. You will work around cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, and infectious materials while using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following strict safety and infection control protocols. The position typically follows a first-shift schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with rotating weekends, and may involve occasional work on evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on operational needs. You will regularly use carts, floor machines, and other cleaning equipment while moving throughout patient care areas, public spaces, and clinical support areas.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mission Viejo, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
