Job Description
The Janitor / Environmental Services (EVS) Aide maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the hospital. This role plays a critical part in infection prevention, patient satisfaction, and smooth facility operations by ensuring all assigned areas meet established cleanliness and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, bathrooms, operating rooms, and common areas in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Perform routine and terminal cleaning procedures to support infection control standards.
- Empty trash, biohazard waste, and recycling bins in compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Restock supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and hand sanitizer in assigned areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors using appropriate equipment, solutions, and techniques.
- Perform janitorial duties including general cleaning, sanitizing, and trash removal throughout the hospital.
- Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal procedures for hazardous materials and waste.
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and urgent cleaning needs to maintain a safe environment.
- Perform floor care tasks such as buffing and maintaining floors as needed.
- Maintain cleaning equipment in good working order and promptly report maintenance or repair needs.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, including safety, infection control, and HIPAA confidentiality standards.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, patients, and team members to coordinate cleaning activities and support patient care.
- Demonstrate a customer service–oriented approach when interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure thorough cleaning and disinfection.
- Reliability and strong work ethic, including consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Good time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods during the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 25–50 pounds safely and repeatedly.
- Ability to push carts and operate cleaning equipment and tools.
- Comfort working with frequent use of cleaning equipment and chemicals while following safety guidelines.
- Experience performing janitorial duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal.
- Experience in environmental services or custodial roles in healthcare or similar settings.
- Familiarity with infection control practices and terminal cleaning procedures.
- Customer service–oriented mindset when supporting patients, visitors, and staff.
- Ability to handle exposure to bodily fluids and infectious materials while using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Strong sense of responsibility and accountability for assigned areas and tasks.

Work Environment
This role is based in a fast-paced hospital environment with a regulated indoor temperature. You will frequently use cleaning equipment and chemicals and may encounter exposure to bodily fluids and infectious materials while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The position follows a 2nd shift schedule from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with rotating weekends. The work involves extended periods of standing, walking, bending, lifting, and pushing carts and equipment as part of daily cleaning and environmental services duties.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
