The Facilities Maintenance Technician maintains and repairs the facility’s structures, equipment, and grounds, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, and furniture. This role performs light carpentry and painting, small repairs to walls, roofs, and office fixtures, and minor inspections of the premises to identify necessary repairs. The technician assists with planned maintenance on all equipment, keeps current with education related to tools and processes, and provides regular project updates and progress reports to various departments so they can plan accordingly.
Responsibilities- Maintain and repair facility structures, equipment, and grounds, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, and furniture.
- Perform light carpentry, painting, and small repairs to structures such as walls, roofs, and office fixtures.
- Conduct minor inspections of the premises to determine required repair and maintenance work.
- Assist with planned and preventive maintenance on all facility equipment.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of existing equipment, tools, and processes relevant to facility maintenance.
- Provide clear updates and progress reports to different departments on ongoing projects.
- Assist with sourcing and ordering equipment, parts, and supplies needed for maintenance and repairs.
- Support and escort vendors while they are on company property and maintain positive working relationships.
- Maintain and repair appliances including dishwashers, microwaves, coffee machines, freezers, and refrigerators.
- Adjust temperature thermostats as needed to ensure a comfortable and consistent environment.
- Install ergonomic equipment for employees upon request.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and repair activities as needed across the facilities.
- Help manage equipment documentation and ensure compliance with established standards and protocols.
- Participate in the 24-hour security call rotation to respond to facility-related issues outside of regular hours.
- Assist with facility modification projects, including layout changes and small construction tasks.
- Perform simple electrical projects, spot painting, cleaning, light construction, and exterior cleanup as required.
- Handle recycling of company recyclables, including paper, toner, and batteries, in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain regular communication through phone, email, text, and ticket systems to ensure daily requests are addressed promptly.
- Travel between multiple company buildings to complete maintenance tasks and respond to service requests.
- At least 6 months of experience performing maintenance and basic troubleshooting of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Hands-on experience with a variety of hand tools and power tools used in facilities maintenance.
- Ability to work with computers and comfortably use an app-based computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Experience with preventive maintenance practices and scheduling.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for building systems and equipment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal departments and external vendors.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks across different locations and prioritize work effectively.
- Preferred experience working in biotech or life sciences facilities.
- Understanding of planned maintenance protocols and documentation requirements.
- Familiarity with maintaining and repairing common office and breakroom appliances.
- Comfort working in a multi-building environment and traveling between sites during the workday.

Work EnvironmentThis role is based across three clean, orderly buildings in the San Diego area, with regular travel between sites during the workday. You will work a standard daytime schedule from 8:00 a.m. to late afternoon, Monday through Friday. The environment is professional and well-maintained, with a focus on safety, organization, and reliability of building systems. You will use a range of hand and power tools, computers, and an app-based CMMS to manage work orders and preventive maintenance tasks. The facilities support life sciences operations, so attention to detail, cleanliness, and adherence to protocols are important aspects of the daily work setting.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.50 - $22.50/hr.
