Job Description
This role focuses on civil site design for industrial and multi-family projects, with a strong emphasis on land development, grading, stormwater management, and site planning using AutoCAD Civil 3D. You will prepare detailed engineering analyses, designs, and calculations for site development projects while contributing to project management activities such as scheduling, budgeting, and design review. Responsibilities
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to design site grading and earthwork plans that support industrial and multi-family developments.
- Develop erosion control and stormwater pollution prevention plans that comply with applicable standards and regulations.
- Perform stormwater management and stormwater design, including drainage layouts, detention/retention systems, and related infrastructure.
- Design pavement layouts and related site improvements to support overall site functionality and constructability.
- Prepare engineering analyses, designs, and calculations for various aspects of site development projects, including land development and site plans.
- Support project management activities by assisting with project scheduling, budgeting, and design review tasks.
- Coordinate and collaborate with civil, survey, and environmental team members to ensure integrated and accurate project deliverables.
- Produce high-quality construction documents and drawings in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D, maintaining consistency and accuracy across multiple projects.
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously, each at different phases of design and development, while managing priorities and deadlines.
- Participate in field visits and site inspections as needed to verify design assumptions and support construction activities.
- Communicate effectively with project managers and team members to clarify design requirements, resolve issues, and maintain project progress.
- Contribute to a production-focused environment by delivering timely, accurate, and constructible civil design solutions.
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with the ability and intent to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license within a few years.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in site design and land development.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD with strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Hands-on experience in land development and site design, including grading and site layout.
- Strong knowledge and experience in stormwater management design and stormwater systems.
- Ability to prepare engineering analyses, designs, and calculations for site development projects.
- Solid understanding of civil engineering principles related to earthwork, grading, stormwater, and site planning.
- Strong verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience designing industrial sites, particularly large industrial projects.
- Experience with multi-family site development projects.
- Background in civil design and site planning using AutoCAD Civil 3D on production-focused projects.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in different phases while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
- Interest in professional growth and pursuing upward mobility within a civil engineering practice.
The role is based in an office located in Downers Grove that houses civil, survey, and environmental teams in an open office layout. Each engineer has a dedicated cubicle with a dual-monitor setup, while managers and partners work from private offices. The culture emphasizes collaboration, with engineers working closely with project managers and other team members on production-focused tasks primarily in AutoCAD Civil 3D. The position supports large industrial projects as well as multi-family developments, providing a steady flow of work and exposure to projects in various phases. The organization prefers team members to be in the office, especially for training and collaboration, but operates on a hybrid schedule, typically with two days working from home and three days in the office, adjusted to individual needs where possible. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Downers Grove, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $37.50 - $38.46/hr.
