Sit-Down Forklift Operator - Frankfort, KY
Pay - $21.50/hr
3rd Shift - 10 hour shifts with 10 hours of guaranteed OT
Job Description
The Sit-Down Forklift Operator safely operates a sit-down forklift to move raw materials, work-in-process items, and finished products throughout a large manufacturing facility. This role plays a critical part in keeping multiple production lines supplied so that equipment runs continuously without interruption due to material shortages.
Responsibilities
- Operate a sit-down forklift to deliver raw materials and work-in-process goods to multiple production lines in a timely and accurate manner.
- Transport loose materials and finished products between machines and workstations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Load and unload materials from trucks, staging areas, and production lines while maintaining safe handling practices.
- Remove empty pallets and maintain an orderly and efficient material flow throughout the facility.
- Check material identification and verify it against production or shipping schedules to ensure correct items and quantities are moved.
- Perform daily pre-shift forklift inspections, documenting findings and ensuring equipment is safe and ready for use.
- Complete basic preventive maintenance on forklifts, such as changing propane tanks and checking oil and water levels.
- Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized by following housekeeping standards and promptly removing debris or obstructions.
- Report inconsistencies in materials, equipment concerns, or safety issues to supervisors as soon as they are identified.
- Follow all safety procedures, facility rules, and material handling guidelines to prevent accidents and product damage.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating a sit-down forklift in a manufacturing, warehouse, or similar industrial environment.
- Proficient sit-down forklift operation, including precise maneuvering in open and semi-confined areas.
- Strong material handling skills for loading, unloading, staging, and moving raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Ability to read and verify material identification labels and match them to production or shipping schedules.
- Experience performing daily pre-shift equipment inspections and documenting any issues.
- Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance on forklifts, including changing propane tanks and checking fluid levels.
- Solid understanding of safe forklift operation and workplace safety practices.
- Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting multiple production lines with just-in-time material delivery.
- Experience in shipping and receiving activities, including loading and unloading trucks.
- Familiarity with inventory handling and maintaining orderly material flow.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with production staff and supervisors.
- Ability to stay organized and prioritize tasks when handling multiple material requests.

Work Environment
The role is based in a large, approximately 270,000 square foot manufacturing facility that produces racking and metal bins for major retailers. The plant offers a fairly clean environment with plenty of open space for maneuvering forklifts and staging materials. The facility is not climate controlled, so it can be hot during the summer and cold during the winter, and candidates should be comfortable working in these conditions. Work involves operating a sit-down forklift and handling materials across the production floor, supporting multiple lines in a busy, fast-paced setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.50 - $22.00/hr.
