Job Description
The CMM Inspector will perform precision mechanical quality inspections using coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and traditional metrology tools, ensuring that components meet engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards. This role focuses on operating CMM equipment, interpreting results, applying GD&T principles, and maintaining accurate quality documentation while collaborating closely with engineering and manufacturing teams.
Responsibilities
- Operate coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to perform detailed mechanical inspections of components and assemblies.
- Interpret CMM results accurately and communicate findings clearly to engineering and manufacturing personnel.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine inspection requirements.
- Apply GD&T principles to evaluate part conformance and ensure compliance with dimensional and geometric tolerances.
- Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers, thread gauges, dial indicators, calipers, height gauges, and optical equipment to verify part dimensions.
- Perform mechanical inspection activities in accordance with internal procedures and applicable standards, including aerospace and AS9100 requirements.
- Develop, complete, and maintain accurate quality documentation, inspection reports, and technical records.
- Perform technical writing related to inspection results, nonconformances, and quality documentation to ensure clarity and traceability.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement.
- Follow established quality, safety, and housekeeping procedures to maintain a clean and organized inspection area.
- Support first shift production needs by prioritizing inspection tasks and meeting required timelines.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with CMM inspection and CMM operation (3–5 years preferred).
- Proficiency in operating CMM equipment and interpreting CMM measurement results.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Practical experience applying GD&T principles in a production or inspection environment.
- Proficiency in mechanical inspection using micrometers, thread gauges, dial indicators, calipers, height gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Experience with quality inspection practices in a manufacturing environment, ideally including aerospace inspection.
- Familiarity with ASME standards and blueprint reading for quality verification.
- Ability to perform accurate technical writing and maintain precise quality documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and document nonconformances.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills when working with engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Experience in an aerospace manufacturing or aerospace inspection environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality management system requirements is beneficial.
- Experience with optical inspection tools and other advanced metrology equipment is a plus.
- Comfort working in a structured quality system with documented procedures and standards.
- Ability to work independently on first shift while managing multiple inspection priorities.

You will work in a professional manufacturing and quality environment that emphasizes safety, accuracy, and adherence to established procedures. The role involves daily use of CMM equipment, precision measuring tools such as micrometers, thread gauges, dial indicators, calipers, height gauges, and potentially optical inspection equipment. The facility supports structured quality standards, including aerospace-related requirements, and provides appropriate personal protective equipment and uniforms through a rental service. The environment promotes collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams while maintaining a focused, detail-oriented inspection workspace.
