Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining and repairing equipment in an aluminum extrusion manufacturing environment. You will take ownership of all aspects of plant maintenance, including preventive maintenance, reactive repairs, and facilities-related work, to ensure production runs safely and efficiently. The position involves working on aluminum extrusion machines as well as CNCs, brake presses, lasers, and powder coating equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of plant maintenance, including preventive, reactive, and facilities maintenance, to support continuous production.
- Attend daily passover meetings to review ongoing issues, prioritize work orders, and coordinate with production and other maintenance team members.
- Respond quickly to reactive maintenance needs to minimize downtime and keep aluminum extrusion lines and related equipment running.
- Troubleshoot and repair extrusion equipment, including 3-phase 480V motors, servo motors, AC/DC motors, hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, extruders, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and gearboxes.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical issues using schematics and electrical troubleshooting techniques on 3-phase systems and related control equipment.
- Perform mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on production machinery, including components of CNCs, brake presses, lasers, and powder coating machines.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance tasks such as greasing bearings, tightening bolts, inspecting components, and replacing worn parts.
- Use PLC systems to assist with troubleshooting machine faults and control issues on production equipment.
- Support major preventive maintenance programs conducted twice per year by planning, executing, and documenting maintenance activities.
- Perform basic facilities maintenance tasks as needed to maintain a safe and reliable plant environment.
- Collaborate with team members and production staff to identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to equipment reliability.
- Document maintenance activities accurately and communicate equipment status and repair needs to appropriate stakeholders.
- Follow safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices when working on electrical and mechanical systems.
Essential Skills
- Proven mechanical troubleshooting experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including working with 3-phase 480V systems.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulic presses and hydraulic systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining pneumatics on industrial equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Experience with PLC-based equipment for troubleshooting machine controls.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair motors, including servo and AC/DC motors.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on production machinery, including lubrication and mechanical adjustments.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair conveyors, extruders, VFDs, and gearboxes.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to diagnose complex equipment issues under time pressure.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Welding skills for basic fabrication and repair work.
- Experience with facilities maintenance in an industrial setting.
- Previous experience working with aluminum extrusion equipment.
- Experience with die casting machines or plastic injection molding presses.
- Familiarity with lasers, brake presses, CNC machines, and powder coating equipment.
- Comfort working with industrial PLC systems and controls.

Work Environment
This position is based in an industrial manufacturing environment focused on aluminum extrusion and related processes. You will work around heavy machinery such as extrusion lines, CNCs, brake presses, lasers, and powder coating equipment. The role involves a significant amount of hands-on work on the shop floor, often in areas with noise, moving equipment, and typical industrial conditions. You will initially work 8–10 hour days, with plans to implement an on-call program to support maintenance coverage. Major preventive maintenance programs occur twice per year, typically in July and December, during which extended maintenance activities are scheduled. The facility operates on three shifts: 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (with 1 or 2 technicians assigned), and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (with 1 or 2 technicians assigned). The dress code requires jeans and steel-toe footwear to support safety and durability in the plant environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cassopolis, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr.
