Job Description
The Test Technician performs pre-defined mechanical and electrical test procedures to support accelerated life testing on a variety of medical devices and consumables. This role focuses on executing tests accurately, using test equipment safely and effectively, and clearly recording data and observations to support product development and validation activities. The position offers hands-on experience with both prototype and current medical devices and provides a strong foundation for future growth into engineering-focused roles.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-defined mechanical and electrical test procedures on medical devices and consumables as part of accelerated life testing programs.
- Set up, operate, and monitor test equipment according to established protocols and work instructions.
- Read and interpret blueprints and CAD drawings to understand product configurations and test requirements.
- Accurately record test data, measurements, and results in designated logs, databases, or reports.
- Document observations clearly, including any anomalies, failures, or unexpected behaviors during testing.
- Verify that test setups and fixtures align with specifications outlined in engineering documentation.
- Follow laboratory procedures and safety guidelines while handling devices, test equipment, and materials.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members by communicating test outcomes and providing detailed feedback on device performance.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage and handling of test equipment and materials.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying potential enhancements to test procedures or documentation clarity.
- Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on testing experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or product development environment.
- Proficiency in performing mechanical testing and using relevant test equipment.
- Proficiency in performing electrical testing and using relevant test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and CAD drawings accurately.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including understanding of mechanical components and assemblies.
- Demonstrated electrical aptitude, including basic understanding of circuits and electrical measurements.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to record test data and observations clearly and accurately.
- Associate degree or higher in a STEM field.
- Experience working in the medical device industry.
- Interest in medical device development and validation, including testing of prototypes and released products.
- Desire to grow into more advanced technical or engineering roles over time.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to recognize and communicate test anomalies.
- Effective written communication skills for documenting test results and observations.
- Ability to work independently during overnight hours while maintaining high accuracy and quality.
This position is based onsite in a dedicated test laboratory focused on medical devices and consumables. You will work primarily with mechanical and electrical test equipment, following established test procedures and lab protocols. The standard schedule is an overnight shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. The environment is structured, process-driven, and safety-conscious, with close collaboration between technicians and engineers. The lab setting requires appropriate attire suitable for a technical testing environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Portage, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
